Wednesday’s Forthcoming Releases [Part II]

EMINEM 'Beautiful' [Release Date 03/08/09]

C5: Following the massive success of 'We Made You', Eminem releases his anthemic new single 'Beautiful' on 3rd August. 'Beautiful' is taken from Eminem's critically acclaimed No. 1 album, 'Relapse'. The album has sold over a million copies since its release last month and is the fastest selling album in the UK this year. 'Beautiful' is in the mould of 'Stan', 'The Way I Am' and 'Toy Soldiers', where Eminem tells a story in his brutal and honest confessional style – one of the reasons why he has been called the greatest lyricist of his generation. Eminem started writing the song when he was in rehab going through detox. "It brings me back to a time when I was really depressed and down," he says. "But at the same time it reminds me of what that space is like and what never to go back to. There is a lot of honesty in that song that I wouldn't want to just throw away."

TINCHY STRIDER featuring AMELLE BERRABAH 'Never Leave You' [Release Date 03/08/09]

C5: proving to be a big year for 22 year old, Ghanaian born and East London based Tinchy Stryder. After being tipped as a rising star by the likes of Radio One, Wiley, and (bizarrely) MP Norman Lamb, this Star In The Hood has scored two consecutive top 3 hits, (including the no. 1 single for three weeks 'Number 1'), supported Akon and N-Dubz on sell out arena tours, launched a flourishing merchandise line with the kind of kudos and turnover that would impress Phillip Green, and completed a degree in Digital Arts and Moving Imagery at University of East London. Following these successes Tinchy Stryder is now set to unleash yet another bonafide hit. Out on 3rd August 'Never Leave You' featuring Sugababe Amelle is the forth cut to be taken from his forthcoming album 'Catch 22' (released on 13th August 2009). Meanwhile Tinchy will be performing at Glastonbury, Wireless, Bestival, Underage Festival and V Festival over the summer, before embarking on his first headline nationwide tour in September.

GIRLS CAN'T CATCH 'Keep Your Head Up' [Release Date 03/08/09]

C5: "You're about to have a new favourite girlband" – Popjustice One of the most exciting pop prospects for 2009, Girls Can't Catch are Daizy, Jess and Phoebe. The group have just finished a tour throughout the UK with label-mates Girls Aloud, and are set to release their debut single, 'Keep Your Head Up', on Fascination Records on 3rd August. The punchy positivity anthem of 'Keep Your Head Up' is written by Ivor Novello winner Chris Braide who recently hit the charts with James Morrison. "'Keep Your Head Up' feels like our theme tune at the moment," says Phoebe. "No matter what life throws at you, you've got to keep going and go for what you believe in. And it's a bloody good tune you can't get out of your head!" Girls Can't Catch might currently be the new girls on the block but not for much longer. Possessed with swoopingly soulful voices, between the three of them they've sung with gospel choirs, top R&B stars and in front of literally millions. They're currently recording their debut album which will be released this autumn. As well as Chris Braide, they are working with a stellar line of writers – from former All Saints member, Shaznay Lewis to Johnny Douglas. "We've got a pop sound but with a slightly darker edge," says raven-haired Phoebe. "And we're all so different," adds a freshly-cropped Daizy. "Phoebe's a bit of a rebel, Jess is a sweet girl with a real street style and I'm a bit a of vamp – in a nice way, of course!"

FRANKMUSIK 'Complete Me' [Release Date 03/08/09]

CD I 2-CD: "Vincent Frank is the sharpest pop prospect of his generation…effortlessly futuristic and achingly human." The Guardian Guide "The most talented popstar we've met in yonks." NME "Synth-pop super-star in waiting." Q In 2009, Frankmusik is that rarest of pop prospects; one that has manufactured his own image and music. 'Complete Me' is an auteur's album, a break-up record written about one girl. While his contemporaries use one producer for one track, one writer for another and end up with a hotch-potch of borrowed sentiments and a patchwork of production sounds, Vincent wrote and produced these tracks in his bedroom in Thornton Heath, Croydon. The album is an electronic love letter to an X – the soundtrack to an eternal summer of adolescent heartache, equal parts light and dark. Frankmusik has become one of 2009's most in demand remixers/producers with a dozen remixes to his name for everyone from avant-garde Brooklyn act Telepathe to The Pet Shop Boys; he has also produced two tracks on the forthcoming album by No 1 grime pop star Tinchy Stryder. Here comes a new decade and here comes a versatile new dance-pop producer/songwriter to walk into the footsteps of fellow South London heroes Basement Jaxx. With his debut single 'Better Off As Two' reaching the upper reaches of the charts and more singles from the album primed to explode, Frankmusik's trajectory is star-bound. 'Complete Me' is a cohesive artistic whole from one of the country's most important new songwriters. At the callow age of 23 Frankmusik is England's new electric dreamer on the cusp of re-wiring the national consciousness.

MSTRKRFT 'Fist Of God' [Release Date 03/08/09]

CD: "A non-stop synth-heavy holy roundhouse that batters you relentlessly" – NME "A collection of the loud electronic missles they have wanted to play for all these years" – Mixmag "MSTRKRFT sound bigger and badder than ever" – DJMag "We tried to make 'festival weapons,' so when we play them, it's like throwing a million hatchets into the audience," explains Jesse F. Keeler, one half of DJ/production duo MSTRKRFT, describing the songs from the upcoming album, 'Fist Of God'. Indeed, when it came to following up their acclaimed debut, 2006's 'The Looks', MSTRKRFT looked to their experience behind the decks, spinning everywhere from packed, sweaty clubs to major festivals like the World Electronic Music Festival and Bonnaroo. It may sound arrogant, but from our DJ experience we've developed ideas about what people should be listening to." That's demonstrated by Fist of God's sonic evolution. Not only are the beats fatter than ever this time around, they also represent Al-P and Jesse's mutation of today's best urban music into MSTRKRFT's distinctively brutal club grooves. Throughout 'Fist', slamming cameos from the likes of John Legend, N.O.R.E., Ghostface Killah, E-40, Freeway, and Isis of Thunderheist all get MSTRKRFTED. "It wasn't a conscious decision to incorporate more of those sounds," Jesse clarifies. "It's just a reflection of where our heads are at." MSTRKRFT's embrace of urban sounds doesn't seem so shocking, either, considering the group's musical background. Al-P and Jesse started collaborating in 2004, when Al produced 'You're A Woman, I'm A Machine', the first (and only) album from Jesse's former band, the acclaimed Toronto noise-rock iconoclast duo Death From Above 1979, which went Gold in their native Canada. The standout perfomance on the record is John Legend's astonishing vocals on 'Heartbreaker' – Fist's unclassifiable, synth-pop-meets-Journey ballad co-written with Space Cowboy. "Other than his multimillion dollar voice, John just gave the track what it needed," Jesse says. "No one else could've completed it like that. The fact that John has worked with producers like Kanye and puts us in great company. I'm quite positive 'Heartbreaker' is not the end of MSTRKRFT's relationship with John Legend."

REM REISSUES: [Release Date 03/08/09]

RECKONING 2-CD I LP :Reckoning, their second album, "confirms R.E.M. as one of the most beautifully exciting groups on the planet" wrote the NME in 1984. Twenty-five years later, 'Reckoning' remains a fan favorite for capturing R.E.M. during the youthful freshness of a new, fiercely independent American music scene. The 2CD Reckoning – Deluxe Edition, assembled in conjunction with the band, features the original album remastered plus a second disc of a previously unreleased concert recorded on the band's 'Little America' tour at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom on July 7, 1984. The second disc sees the group not only performs eight of Reckoning's ten songs, 'Gardening At Night' from 1982's Chronic Town EP and 'Radio Free Europe', '9-9' and 'Sitting Still' from 'Murmur' but also new songs that had yet to make it onto tape: 'Driver 8' would later debut on R.E.M.'s third album and 'Hyena' on their fourth. The Deluxe Edition also includes liner notes by noted author and REM biographer Tony Fletcher. The LP is on 180 Gram audiophile vinyl and in original packaging, and pressed from the original audio masters.

MURMUR LP: R.E.M. are a long-standing part of the cultural landscape and this release recalls the first major step in their journey to becoming one of the great bands of our time. Widely considered to be the first indie-rock album it set the template for that genre for the next 25 years and remains as surprising, strange and beautiful as it did on release.

THE IMPRESSIONS 'Complete A And B Sides 1961-1968' [Release Date 03/08/09]

2-CD: Complete As And Bs collects, chronologically, one of the best runs of any 60s group, soul or otherwise. Many use the word genius with a wild abandon, yet surely if there is one who deserves to be labelled as such, and who rarely is, it is Curtis Mayfield, a unique man in music. Mayfield was gifted with the pipes of an angel and took the rafter-raising spirit of the church, with its uplifting & hopeful message, and combined it with an indelible songwriting craft to create sublime spiritual soul music that carried his sermons of civil rights and equality to the masses. Listening to his group, The Impressions, on this selection is a truly spiritual experience: it's like witnessing the birth of soul over and over again. From the eerie, atmospheric 'Gypsy Woman' in 1962, Curtis Mayfield's gorgeous falsetto floats over a collection of all-time soulful greats, including US no.4 hit 'It's All Right', the civil rights anthem 'People Get Ready', and northern soul stomper 'Can't Satisfy'.

GARY WALKER & THE RAIN 'Album No. 1' [Release Date 03/08/09]

CD: Gary Walker was the drummer in the legendary Walker Brothers and this is his debut, and only, solo album, originally released in 1968 only in Japan. The least-likely-to Walker Brother cut this hard-hitting, Who-inspired, pop psych album with an excellent, hand-picked band and is purportedly the first to ever be recorded in '3D'. This is the first time it has been officially out on CD, and includes the extremely rare single 'Gary's Theme' as a bonus. This title is one of four in the new range from the Eclipse, the label curated by Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs of Saint Etienne.

2-CD: Oscar Peterson defined the modern mainstream jazz piano style, with albums such as 'Night Train' and 'We Get Requests' providing a template for all other jazz piano trios to follow.
