WALE featuring LADY GAGA 'Chillin'' [Release Date 31/08/2009]

C5: "Wale is the future" – XXL Hip hop has an exciting new face and his name is Wale. The 24-year old who hails from the colourful back streets of Washington DC was discovered by Mark Ronson. The Grammy-Award winning producer/writer was so impressed by the East-Coast rapper's laid back flow and skilful wordplay, that he decided to sign him to his own label Allido Records, an imprint of Interscope Records. Ronson introduced Wale to Lady Gaga who instantly became a fan and proceeded to write the hook for Wale's debut single 'Chillin', which will be released on August 31st. Produced by Cool & Dre the track samples the 1969 Steam hit single 'Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye'. The 'Chillin' video also features Gaga. 'Chillin' is already burning up the UK airwaves via Radio 1, 1Xtra and Galaxy. Its catchy, double-dutch playground hook (sung by Gaga) intertwined with Wale's too cool-for-skool delivery makes this a contender for THE hip hop hit of the summer. This may be the first time many have heard of Wale's talents, but he's already well known at street level. The DC rapper has released some of the most well received mixtapes in recent times including '100 Miles and Running', which featured the hip hop banger 'W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E' a remix of French electro-house stars Justice 'D.A.N.C.E'.

JUST JACK 'All Night Cinema' [Release Date 31/08/2009]

CD: Just Jack returns with his stunning new album 'All Night Cinema' out on Mercury Records, August 31st, the follow-up to his smash-hit LP 'Overtones'. 'All Night Cinema' sees Just Jack at his blistering best. Produced and almost entirely written by Jack [along with co-production by past collaborator, Jay Reynolds], Jack has come up with a genre-busting album, packed with infectious, catchy, hook-laden tunes. The new LP features straight-out, hard-hitting pop songs, wrapped around Jack's razor-sharp lyrics and acute observations. Lyrically, he finds himself talking about everything from the sublime to the ordinary, eloquently depicting life in England in Jack's very own inimitable way. Boasting eleven tracks on 'All Night Cinema', the lead single and first track 'Embers' sets the tone for the album. 'Embers' is enforced by multi-layered sounds and strings, which enhance the sentiments and lyrics of 'Embers' beautifully. 'All Night Cinema' conjures and creates its very own tale on each track, and musically dazzles. From '253' – a late night bus journey fused with a Van Morrison-esque harmonica hook, to 'The Day I Died' – a beautifully reflective stripped down track, with a shimmering melody and cultural snapshots of everyday life. 'Doctor Doctor' is another album highlight, reminding us of why Jack earned himself a top position as one of Britain's cutting edge, new artists. 'Embers' has already been receiving airplay on Radio One from Sarah Cox and Pete Tong, as well as from Lily Allen who recently stepped in for Zane Lowe. This triumphant return looks set to follow in the same vein as previous hit singles 'Writers Block' and 'Starz In Their Eyes' which reached No. 2 in the charts, both featured on Jack's Double Gold selling LP 'Overtones'.

NOAH AND THE WHALE 'The First Days Of Spring' [Release Date 31/08/2009]

CD I CD/DVD: The First Days of Spring is an album and a film by Noah and the Whale. The follow-up to the London-based quartet's Top 5 Gold-selling 2008 debut 'Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down', The First Days of Spring is available as a CD and a Deluxe Edition CD/DVD package comprised of the 11-track album and a 50 minute film directed and written by the band's Charlie Fink. The album was recorded in London and New York with producer Emery Dobyns (Patti Smith, Antony & The Johnsons). The film, meanwhile, was shot on location in London and Surrey, with Charlie, who has in the past shot music videos for his band, in the director's chair. The film has an ensemble cast which includes the model Daisy Lowe, and was given its first public airing in a special presentation at Latitude Festival this July. Noah and the Whale will be performing various songs from the new album for the first time at other festivals this summer including Glastonbury, Hop Farm, Secret Garden Party and Reading/Leeds. For those of you who haven't heard yet, our new album will be accompanied by a film. I have repeatedly struggled to find a concise way to describe the relationship between the two. I resist the term 'feature length music video' as it is a narrative film but its backbone is the soundtrack.

TOMMY SPARKS 'Tommy Sparks' [Release Date 31/08/2009]

CD: Tommy Sparks self-released debut single 'I'm A Rope' caught the attention of everyone earlier this year and now the eagerly anticipated debut album – featuring new single, 'She's Got Me Dancing', looks set to elevate the charismatic newcomer to the next level. Written by Tommy and produced with Mike Crossey [Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight & Foals] – the pop star in waitings' debut album is full to the rafters with bite size nuggets of goodness. From the anthemic stadium fillers like 'These Things Happen' to the Talking Heads inspired 'Much Too Much', the euphoric future single 'Brand New Love' and the intoxicating Chic, MGMT and Franz melting pot that is new single – 'She's Got Me Dancing', Tommy's proves he's as versatile as he is brilliant. The debut album fits just as snugly in a ram-jammed super club as it would at the grimiest of rock festivals. Quite simply, Tommy's tunes are here to remind people of the universal power of music – to make you move.

BLIND MELON 'For My Friends' [Release Date 31/08/2009]

CD: Whereas most alternative bands of the early '90s borrowed from the leaders of the pack [Nirvana, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails etc.], Blind Melon have their roots in the Classic Rock genre [Lynyrd Skynyrd, Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin] which according to them is what always made them unique. The group [singer Shannon Hoon; guitarist Christopher Thorn; guitarist Rogers Stevens, bassist Brad Smith and drummer Glenn Graham] came together in 1989 in Los Angeles and were proud to be the complete opposite of "all these glossed-up glam metal stuff of the '90s". They were hailed to use a refreshing back-to-basics approach, both musically and visually. Although Blind Melon only had a limited repertoire of songs at the time, they managed to convince Capitol that they had a healthy backlog of compositions, and were signed in 1991. After being signed it took the band more than a year to record their debut album and in the meanwhile Hoon became reacquainted with an old friend from his hometown in Indiana; Axl Rose. Rose invited Hoon to sing backup on several tracks for the Guns N' Roses album 'Use Your Illusion I' with the ballad 'Don't Cry' ending up to be more of a duet than Hoon being a backing singer and Hoon being prominently featured in the video clip. Blind Melon's career then started in 1992 with the release of their self-titled debut album, produced by Rick Pasrasher [Pearl Jam]. It obtained triple-platinum status in the US after the stunning success of the album's 3rd single 'No Rain' which became a smash and catapulted the single and the album to the top of the charts and was a worldwide success. The band was nominated for two Grammy awards in 1994. Their dark and challenging second album 'Soup' [1995], produced by Andy Wallace [Alice Cooper], was a true diamond in the rough, peaking at #28 on the US Billboard album charts. But while a promising career lay ahead of them, tragedy would ultimately end the band abruptly: on October 21, Hoon was found dead on Blind Melon's tour bus from an apparent drug overdose, at the age of 28. In 2006, Blind Melon surprised fans by announcing that they were reuniting, with new singer Travis Warren in tow. The group's first new studio effort in nearly 13 years, 'For My Friends' was released in the US only in April 2008 and was accompanied by an extensive and successful tour. Warren's voice sounds quite similar to Hoon's, but it's still different enough not to be a rip-off. The band therefore manages to keep the previous Blind Melon-feeling and revive its spirit. 'For My Friends' is a breath of musical fresh air within Blind Melon combining funky, psychedelic, light soul elements and guitar solos to 13 rock songs, showing their true nature. The instrumentation on this album is nothing short of exquisite. Rogers Stevens and Christopher Thorn lay down more of the same complex rhythms and riffs that made the previous Blind Melon albums worth listening to over and over again. Brad Smith's bass and Glenn Graham's drums once again work like a machine, finding a beat amid the busy sound of the music. The album represents continuity but at the same time rebirth for both the band and the listeners, because Blind Melon still sound and look like Blind Melon.

THE FALL 'Hex Enduction Hour' [Release Date 07/09/2009]

2CD: First released in March 1982, 'Hex Enduction Hour' is The Fall's fourth studio album and is regarded as the "classic" in their catalogue. With Smith's sustained rail against culture as Britain went from being a producer to a consumer, 'Hex…' is the point where The Fall mapped-out a whole new territory. A tour-de-force of dense, knotty, broken, brazen, dark, bleak and skewiff alt. rock, it's no surprise that the track 'Hip Priest' was used during the climax to the film, 'The Silence Of The Lambs'. In short, 'Hex…' is when it got really good. This Deluxe edition adds a complete second disc of bonus tracks ranging from tracks recorded for a Radio One Peel session in September '81, the single 'I'm Into C.B.' and six live tracks recorded in England and New Zealand between November '81 and August '82.
