Thursday’s Forthcoming Releases [Part I]

ASH 'True Love 1980' [Release Date 12/10/2009]

Ltd 7": Crisscrossing the nation from A to Z, evergreen rock stars Ash promote their mould breaking A-Z Singles Collection with a 26-date UK tour. Visiting some of the country's live music back waters… Working alphabetically through the towns and cities of the British Isles from Aldershot to Zennor, Ash will be dropping in on the UK's lesser-visited concert venues. Exotic locations like Ventnor (that's on the Isle of Wight), The Havana Club (in Jersey), Upper Norwood (South London of course…) and the Devonshire seaside town of 'eXmouth', will be among those experiencing a rare visit from a major touring act; and who better to "bring the rock" than the acclaimed live act and hit factory that is Ash? The tour provides the launch pad for the bands unique A-Z Series, kicking off with the electro-ballad 'True Love 1980' on October 12th. The A-Z series will see a collection of 26 limited edition 7" singles, released fortnightly over the coming year. Rising to the challenge of the creative Everest that is a 26 single campaign, with 'True Love 1980', Tim Wheeler has delivered a typically monumental piece of pop; tapping into Ash's trademark hooks and three piece dynamism, while reveling in the possibilities of their groundbreaking studio project. 'True Love 1980' follows the critically acclaimed 'Return Of White Rabbit' dropped earlier this summer. Where 'Return of White Rabbit' showcased angular guitars and growling basslines, 'True Love 1980' delivers a perfect slice of Back-To-The-Future synth pop balladry from Ash's hit writing engine room.

JOHN LENNON & YOKO ONO 'Year Of Peace': The year: 1969. Headlines blare war and civil unrest while John Lennon and Yoko Ono are in love. The eccentric rock 'n' roll couple has just gotten married, and more than happy to be together, they want to change the world. Lying in a hotel bed surrounded by journalists, they announce their mission for peace and invite the rest of the world to symbolically climb into bed with them and share their dream. People call them silly, naive, even ridiculous, yet one famous couple's bed-in spread new hope that there really could be an end to war, hate and violence. Here is rare footage from that amazing time, including footage from John and Yoko's wedding, the infamous bedside confrontation between John and conservative cartoonist Al Capp, Lennon debating media expert Marshall McLuhan, and meeting Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Now twenty years after Lennon's murder, Yoko and others involved in the peace mission reflect on the events of that magical, mystical year.

Three selections of silent footage shot by the U.S. Dept. of Defense culled from the National Archives. The middle section is the MC5 being observed while playing the 1968 Democratic National Convention protest festival. 4 – The original 'Kick Out The Jams' promotional film by John Sinclair and Leni Sinclair. IDLEWILD 'Post Electric Blues' [Release Date 05/10/2009]

CD: Idlewild's 'Post-Electric Blues' an indie-rock album of Boss-like bombast, flecked with 70s synths and dashes of brass. It's an album that leaps from Fleetwood Mac epic folk / rock / pop peaks into joyous Loch-side sing-a-longs. It's the sound of a deft and defiant band exploring soundscapes whilst finding hooks and generally, genuinely and quite clearly, having a fookin good time. When the coke-shrivelled testicles of Brit-pop were still in full-swing, Idlewild were dropping out of art school and ingesting Fugazi, Superchunk "…and all those small bands on American indie-rock labels." Unlike most modern bands they've been able to develop into the tamed beast that purrs like James Dean's Harley. They have toured and toured, found fans, picked up gold and silver sales discs, scored top 10 singles, released a Best Of and a B-Sides collection, not to mention finding themselves atop various year-end lists either of side of Atlantic, across Europe, in Japan and pretty much everywhere else in the known universe.

TEITUR 'All My Mistakes' [Release Date 05/10/2009]

CD: 'All My Mistakes' follows hot on the heels of Teitur's UK debut 'The Singer' released to critical acclaim in February. Having been desribed by The Fly as "Utterly Inspiring" and "…never less than extraordinary." by The Guardian, 'All My Mistakes' is the album which will connect the dots to his history but also establish Teitur to the mainstream as a song writer par excellence. Having previously toured with artists such as KT Tunstall, John Mayer, Rufus Wainwright and Ray La Montagne et al. Teitur has spent years learning his craft but surprisingly not before 2009 has he ever released an album in the UK. This UK exclusive record spans his short musical career and provides a perfect and long overdue introduction to his considerable talent.

BOWLING FOR SOUP 'Sorry For Partyin'' [Release Date 12/10/2009]

CD: The band began working on the album in January 2009 in Austin, Texas by working with people like Linus of Hollywood, Scott Reynolds, Tony Scalzo, Parry Gripp and Kim Shattuck. The band recorded for over a month recording 18 tracks and finished recording in early March 2009. Afterwards, the band left Austin to record the B-sides for the album in their hometown.

PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS 'Carried Away' [Release Date 12/10/2009]

CD I 2LP: Fresh off major 180,000+ festival gigs at Coachella and Bonnaroo, the highly acclaimed and everyone's favorite duo, People Under The Stairs are back with their 7th album, 'Carried Away.' Fans of PUTS records know that unlike other hip hop / rap artists, there are no outside producers or of-the-moment guest emcees. People Under The Stairs are a completely true independent hip hop duo. Beats, rhymes, scratching, and chorus are all done by PUTS' members Thes One and Double K themselves. Now over ten years and seven albums deep, People Under The Stairs have built a genre within hip hop of their own. Upbeat, crazy, balls to the wall and ridiculous 'Carried Away' follows in true PUTS tradition. 1 part(y) Beastie Boys / 1 part Public Enemy and 1 part Radiohead, the new album was produced old school classic style in the same fashion as Rick Rubin [Def Jam Era] or Dust Brothers [Grand Royal, Pauls Boutique]. Recorded entirely on reel to reel with tons of rock samples, distorted vocals, lots of cussing, drum machines, delays, yelling, the works. Wrap that all up with nods to A Tribe Called Quest [Double K does one hell of a Phife Dog], Beastie Boys, Beer, and Luther Vandross and you're guaranteed to get carried away!

DANIEL JOHNSON 'Is And Always Was' [Release Date 05/10/2009]

CD: Daniel Johnston is allied here with musician / producer Jason Falkner [Beck, Air, Paul McCartney]. 'Is And Always Was' aims to take the rock and roll symphonies in Daniel's prolific musical brain and deliver fully realized and professionally produced recorded songs. Musicians include Daniel: guitar/piano, vox, Falkner: guitar, bass, keyboards, and Joey Waronker (REM, Beck, Smashing Pumpkins) on drums. Johnston is the musician's cult hero, whose music is appreciated for its undeniable simple brilliance. A wide range of artists have covered Johnston's songs, including Beck, Wilco, Sonic Youth, TV On The Radio, M. Ward, Flaming Lips, Death Cab For Cutie, Bright Eyes, Tom Waits and Pearl Jam.
