MOTLEY CRUE 'Dr Feelgood – Deluxe Edition' [Release Date 21/09/2009]

2CD: Rated Billboard's No.1 album following release on September 1st 1989, selling 6 million copies in the U.S. alone and certified multi-platinum (officially Mötley Crüe's best-selling album, the band's fifth overall). * The title track reaches No.6 on the U.S. Billboard singles chart and is ranked No.15 on the VH1 Greatest Hard Rock Songs. * The singles 'Without You' reaches No. 8 and 'Kickstart My Heart' No.18 in the Billboard singles chart. * Contributors on the album include Steven Tyler, Bryan Adams, Robin Zander & Rick Neilsen [Cheap Trick], Skid Row and Jack Blades [Nightranger & Damn Yankees]. We're all familiar with the well worn phrase 'Sex, Drugs and Rock n' Roll', but never has this expression seemed more inadequate than when trying to encapsulate the life and crazy times of L.A.'s favourite Sleaze Metal heroes. Some say Guns N' Roses were the most dangerous band in the World. How wrong they are. The tale of Mötley Crüe is one that has been re-told and documented a'plenty over the years and it's a story that never fails to entertain, amaze, shock and repel in equal measure. One thing that often gets over-shadowed by these tales however, is the fact that the Crüe made bad ass Rock n' Roll and some of the best to come out of the California Glam Metal scene of the 80's. As you read through some of the titles ('Girls, Girls, Girls', 'Live Wire', 'Kickstart My Heart', 'Wild Side', 'Shout At The Devil') one is instantly transported back to a time when Mötley Crüe were the house band to the biggest party in the history of Rock. Time and tide hasn't seemed to slow them down either. They may be a little older (aren't we all) but they still know how to throw some of the biggest, brashest and downright lewdest parties you'll ever have the pleasure of being invited to. 'Sex, Drugs and Rock n' Roll'…that's just the entrée!

DAVID GRAY 'Draw The Line' [Release Date 14/09/2009]

CD I 2CD: "one of the most respected songwriters of his generation" Q Magazine August 2009

With 12 million album sales to date and the best selling album in Ireland ever with 'White Ladder', David Gray is certainly not one to rest on his laurels. Four years after his No.1 album 'Life In Slow Motion', David Gray returns with his highly anticipated new album 'Draw The Line', out September 14th. 'Draw The Line' marks a new chapter for David Gray and his first release with Polydor. The new record will be preceded by lead single 'Fugitive', out September 7th. The album was written and produced by David in his North London studio, The Church. Gray wrote the song 'Draw The Line' in June 2007, which lit the touch paper for the rest of the record and gives the new album its title. It's the warm sound of David Gray's unmistakeable voice and intelligent song writing under a new, revitalised light. Lead single 'Fugitive' is one of the many standout tracks on the album, featuring a soaring contribution from a gospel choir. Other highlights include a joyous collaboration with Annie Lennox on the album's epic finale 'Full Steam Ahead' and a telling duet with American singer-songwriter Jolie Holland on 'Kathleen'. 'First Chance' is buoyed by the sound of a high-strung guitar, while soulful piano based 'Transformation' builds to a powerful crescendo. "I'd been very introspective for whatever reason," he admits. "Partly success, partly things that happened in my life around the time of 'White Ladder'. I guess as a singer-songwriter you're gonna have a little bit of that anyway in your makeup. My previous records were inward most of the time. But suddenly with the song, 'Draw The Line', I'd kicked the front door down and I was outside. The world was my oyster: that's what I felt as a writer." A deluxe edition of the album will also be available from release with a bonus CD featuring 8 of David's greatest hits (including 'Babylon', 'Sail Away' and 'Other Side') performed live at London's Roundhouse.

Written and produced by Skunk Anansie – Skin [Lead Vocals], Cass [bass], Ace [Guitar] and Mark Richardson [Drums] 'Because Of You' is bursting with visceral energy. Kicking off with a sinister, nape prickling guitar riff, Skin's intense vocal, which has never sounded better climbs on top, the track then hits you with a powerful wall of sound, showcasing their raw power and guile. "No one's really sounded like us since we've been away," says Skin. "I think that people are ready for a bit of in-yer-face tuneful rock music again. I see us in competition with every band that's out there and I think we're better than we were before. If we didn't feel like that, it would be sad and pathetic." The 'Greatest Hits' record 'Smashes and Trashes' is a 15-track career-embracing album. It features classic moments from their first two Top Ten albums 'Paranoid & Sunburnt', 'Stoosh' and their 1999 album 'Post Orgasmic Chill'. PREFAB SPROUT 'Let's Change The World With Music' [Release Date 31/08/2009]

CD: Prefab Sprout were formed in 1978 as four piece band based in Co. Durham and went on to be arguably one of the most beloved British pop bands of the 80s and 90s. Prefab Sprout signed to Kitchenware Records in Newcastle in 1985 and since then they have released seven studio albums and two Best Ofs through Sony Music. Their biggest top ten album, 'From Langley Park To Memphis' featured Pete Townsend and Stevie Wonder and included their biggest hit, 'The King Of Rock'n' Roll'. They followed this album with 'Jordan: The Comeback' which was hugely acclaimed and Brit nominated. After various line up changes, the rest of the band released one album for EMI in 2001. Paddy released a solo album, 'Trawl The Megahertz' for EMI in 2003. Singer-songwriter Paddy McAloon is regularly hailed one of the greatest songwriters of his era. 'Let's Change The World With Music' was written and produced by Paddy McAloon at Andromeda Heights and mixed in Scotland by Calum Malcolm. The record kicks off with the hip-hop influenced hook-laden piano led 'Let There Be Music', which sets the tone for the rest of the record. Paddy began work on 'Let's Change The World With Music' in 1992, as the follow-up to 'Jordan: The Comeback'. 17 years later, Paddy returns to these songs, some of his personal favourite compositions. The 11 tracks are rejoiceful and uplifting, striking an endearingly familiar chord, all the while sounding fresh and timeless. Highlights are aplenty and include the celestial 'Ride', the jazzy sway of 'I Love Music' and the melancholic 'Sweet Gospel Music'.

JET 'Shaka Rock' [Release Date 07/09/2009]

CD: On Monday 7th September – Jet, the Australian rockers, will release their third studio album 'Shaka Rock. 'Shaka Rock' was recorded between Miami, Brooklyn, Austin, Sydney and Melbourne, with the band working side by side as co-producers with Chris "Frenchie" Smith to ensure that 'Shaka Rock' would live up to their own expectations. Having established themselves on the international stage as a multi-platinum selling band with 4 million albums sold world wide, 'Shaka Rock' closes the gap between the raw roots of 'Get Born' [2003] and the grace and melody of 'Shine On' [2006]. 'Shaka Rock' captures the charisma and energy of classic rock and roll with just enough swagger and contemporary flair to create something distinctively Jet. When talking about Jet's three studio albums, Nic Cester says, "For better or worse every album is a real and accurate window into how we are reacting to our lives in that point in time which is why every album is uniquely different, and I think Shaka Rock is the most honest so far." While Chris Cester says, "I can say that the band is thrilled with 'Shaka Rock' in every conceivable way. We've had a don't think twice attitude throughout the making of this record which continues as we get ready to release it. I think Shaka Rock is like when TV went colour. It's our musical equivalent. There are moments on this record that are just pure…and moments that just rock harder than we ever have before." In a sea of modern rock bands, Jet are something uniquely different embracing all that was and is rock n roll.

ROLLING STONES 'Jump Back: The Best Of The Rolling Stones '71 – '93' [Release Date 17/08/2009]

CD: Originally released in November 1993, this definitive collection gathers eighteen of the group's classics from the seventies and eighties, such as the Transatlantic Top Ten hits 'Tumbling Dice', 'Fool To Cry', 'Emotional Rescue' and the much-loved 'Start Me Up'. It also includes the ultimate rock anthem 'Brown Sugar', the ballad 'Angie' and the dance-flavoured 'Miss You', three US number one singles in wildly different styles, a testament to the band's versatility, creativity and lasting appeal. In the compact disc era, 'Jump Back' became the point of entry for fans of the greatest rock'n'roll band in the world and was a mainstay of the UK album charts throughout the mid-nineties. Indeed, it paved the way for the arrival of the number one studio album 'Voodoo Lounge' in July 1994, and has now been re-mastered in line with the rest of the group's post-1971 studio recordings. 'Jump Back' kicks off in style with the trademark guitar riffs of 'Start Me Up' and 'Brown Sugar', continues with the band's infectious cover of Bob and Earl's mod favourite 'Harlem Shuffle', the rallying cry of 'It's Only Rock'n'Roll (But I Like It)', and cherry-picks its way through eleven Top 5 studio albums, including the country-tinged 'Wild Horses' and the intoxicating 'Bitch' from 1971's acknowledged masterpiece 'Sticky Fingers', and the rockers 'Mixed Emotions' and 'Rock And A Hard Place' from 1989's Steel Wheels. During the seventies and the eighties, the Rolling Stones played sold-out concerts to ever-bigger audiences in stadiums around the world. They made music and headlines wherever they went, from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, to the French Riviera via Kingston, Jamaica and Nassau in the Bahamas. They remained the bad boys of rock, influencing everyone from Aerosmith and The Clash to Guns'N'Roses. 'Jump Back' eschews the temptation to play it safe and simply run through the group's catalogue chronologically, and is intelligently sequenced for maximum enjoyment at a party or as in-car entertainment. The groove-oriented 'Hot Stuff', from 1976's 'Black And Blue', makes a fine segue between the floor fillers 'Miss You' and 'Emotional Rescue', and the sweet jazz-soul of 'Waiting On A Friend', from 1981's 'Tattoo You', fits snugly alongside 'Beast Of Burden' – a US Top Ten entry never released as a single in the UK – and 'Wild Horses'. The snarling 'Respectable', from 1978's 'Some Girls', proves the Stones could match the punks they had influenced so much, while the collision of reggae, dub, dance and politically-charged lyrics that is 'Undercover Of The Night' from 1983 stills jumps out of the speakers 25 years on. 'Jump Back' retains the original packaging of the 1993 edition and comes complete with a 12-page illustrated booklet featuring comments and observations by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards about the eighteen tracks included, offering fans a rare insight into the workings of the band.

The results showcase a band flexing their musical muscle as influences as diverse as Motown, Orange Juice, 60s garage music and Dexy's Midnight Runners are evident in two unique albums that were rightly celebrated as `one of the truly classic pop albums of all time' (Melody Maker on Positive Touch) and `an immaculate conception of pop' (NME on The Sin Of Pride).

Lalo-Schifrin-Sky-Riders-478318.jpg

LALO SCHIFRIN Sky Riders [released 3rd August 2009]

CD: As a thriller, 'Sky Riders' is frankly quixotic. It posits a sketchy tale of an American industrialist (Robert Culpt) whose wife (Susannah York) and children are snatched by terrorists from their Athens home and spirited away to an abandoned monastery perched like an eagle's nest on a remote and impregnable peak in Thessaly. The Greek police (their chief played, inexplicably, by the adorable Charles Aznavour) are helpless; all seems lost until the timely arrival of the kidnapped woman's former husband (James Coburn), a kind of soldier of fortune who swiftly hits on a plan: a daring guerrilla rescue by hang glider. It's worth noting that Sky Riders, however minutely it may figure in Lalo Schifrin's overall career, marks something of a watershed for the composer. Recorded in February of 1976 (a busy year that would include music for a total of five feature films, a television movie and a generous sprinkling of episodic TV), it would prove to be the last, for a time, in that long, innovative line of jazz/funk-dominated scores with which Schifrin made his reputation. Later in the year, he would score – and earn an Academy Award nomination for – Voyage of the Damned, delving into a more conventionally orchestral if still compelling style. For the next two decades – until director Brett Ratner asked him to revive the funky mode of Enter The Dragon for Money Talks (1997) – this was the musical arena in which Lalo would explore and delight. The score has never been released before, not even on LP. This is the complete original score.

YIM YAMES 'Tribute To' [Release Date 03/08/09]

CD I LP: A few days after George Harrison passed away in 2001, Yim Yames [aka Jim James of My Morning Jacket fame] was moved to record this six-song EP of Harrison covers. Paying tribute to a man that he never met, but with whom he felt a special connection, Yim Yames [aka Jim James from My Morning Jacket]'s 'Tribute To' album mourns the loss of a legendary spirit while celebrating his enduring influence. Yames performs beautiful renditions of four cuts from George Harrison's classic 'All Things Must Pass' album, as well as two of the Beatles' tunes that he penned. These six tracks have a raw, minimalist feel, featuring little more than Yames' vocals and acoustic guitar. With all the space, the room in which the tracks were recorded truly serves as another instrument in the mix, creating an ethereal aura for a backdrop. From his warm, multi-layered vocals on opening track 'Long Long Long' to his near-whisper at the end of album closer 'All Things Must Pass', Yames sings in a fittingly intimate manner. In the album's liner notes, he refers to Harrison as "a prime example of the healing power of music". These words apply just as much to this release. As the final chords on 'Tribute To' ring out, one can't help but feel a deep, satisfying sense of catharsis.
