'Great Expectations' C5 – 463791 / 7" – 463792 Release Date 23/03/2009 This year's Breakthrough Rock Act make further strides with the third release from their sophomore album, 'The '59 Sound'.

THE KILLS

 image002.jpg

'Black Balloon' Ltd 10" – 463793 Release Date 23/03/2009 Considered by many as the stand out track of 'Midnight Boom', the poignant and touching 'Black Balloon' finally gets a well deserved special release. 2008 saw the return of one of rocks most unique and enigmatic duos, The Kills, with their third album 'Midnight Boom'. VV [Alison] and Hotel [Jamie] have long symbolised what draws people to rock 'n' roll, downright cool and sexy, and with songs that most other rock n roll acts can only dream about making. 'Black Balloon', one of the stand out tracks from 'Midnight Boom', is the haunting tale of having to say goodbye to a love and shows a side to The Kills that many aren't familiar with, a gentler, more melodic side.

GRAMMATICS

image003.jpg

'Grammatics' CD – 463795 Release Date 23/03/2009 Debut album from critically acclaimed Leeds band the Grammatics, the darlings of Radio One's Huw Stevens "You are looking at an album that is so rare, so well created and driven by people so talented, it is nothing short of perfect." 10/10 – AudioScribbler "An early contender for Rock Sound's Album's Of 2009." 8/10 – Rock Sound "The blend of Owen Brinley's choirboy vocals and a raft of prog-tinged riffs is a source of promise, magic and drama." 4/5 – Uncut "Done with such poise and craft you're left breathless." 4/5 – The Fly.

PETER BJORN & JOHN

image004.jpg

'Nothing To Worry About' CD – 463803 Release Date 23/03/2009 Thus spake pop icon, fashion entrepreneur, hip hop superstar and all-round cultural lightning rod that is Kanye West on his blog when Swedish trio Peter Bjorn and John sent him their latest single, 'Nothing to Worry About', to listen to. And of course, what 'Ye recommends, other people shortly follow suit as well, with the track spreading like wildfire through the blogosphere in mere hours. And all with Mr West not even being sure what the name of the track was. The man was obviously quite excited. And who could blame him? This is a band, after all, who set the world alight with their all-conquering, globe-gobbling smash hit 'Young Folks' and who then proceeded to dazzle us with their sublimely gorgeous 'Writer's Block' album in 2007. 2008 saw them resurface with the decidedly quirky opus 'Seaside Rock', which teased and tantalized in equal measure, but it is their forthcoming record 'Living Thing', released March 30 – and their follow-up to 'Writer's Block' proper – that will see them melting hearts everywhere from Auckland to Timbuktu with their wily way with a lovelorn lyric and casually infectious tune. And, make no mistake; 'Nothing to Worry About' is one song that undoubtedly deserves the hype. It's got it all: Handclaps. Hooks so big and sturdy that you could hang an elephant on them. A chorus simpler than the Monday crossword puzzle, yet catchier than the Ebola virus. A madcap, Andreas Nilsson-directed video featuring dancing Japanese rockabillies. Even a children's choir, for Maria Von Trapp's sake. It is the kind of off-kilter burst of genius we've always expected from this most extraordinary band of outsiders, and a more than worthy successor to (whisper it) 'Young Folks' if ever a successor was indeed needed. And if you don't believe us, believe Kanye. **No Artwork Found Yet**

LITTLE MAN TATE 'I Am Alive' Ltd 7" – 463807 Release Date 23/03/2009 **Strictly Limited to 1000 Copies so Out Requests ONLY** Fresh from a very successful European tour, Little Man Tate are pleased to announce details of their brand new single and biggest ever UK headline date. The British indie-rockers, who released their second album, 'Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy', through Skint Records in the late autumn of 2008, will release a brand new track, 'I Am Alive' on the 23rd March 2009. The track was exclusively written for the Yorkshire Sports Awards after the band were invited to write the official awards theme by the BBC. The single is backed with another new track: 'Little Chicago'.

THE RAKES

image005.jpg

'Klang' CD – 463815 / LP – 463822 Release Date 23/03/2009 The Rakes have announced a UK tour for April. It is their first since March 2007. The tour will coincide with the release of the bands long awaited third album, 'Klang', on Monday 23rd March through V2. A single, taken from the album, entitled 1989, will be released on March 16th. The album was recorded at Planet Roc Studios in Berlin and produced by Chris Zane [Les Savy Fav, The Walkmen, Passion Pit]. The Rakes decided they wanted to record in a fresh and exciting new environment, so they relocated to an industrial area in the old Communist part of Berlin. "The London music scene is so dull – it's like wading through a swamp of shit. We just wanted to be somewhere more inspiring," said Rakes singer Alan Donohoe. "Someone suggested Berlin. It didn't take long for everyone to agree, we packed our bags and moved here just like that. We love it." They lived and recorded in the grounds of a Bauhaus-designed, Soviet radio station that had been converted into a studio. On working with producer Chris Zane, Alan Donohoe adds: "The album is raw, playful, exciting, complex and schizophrenic – much like the personality of Berlin itself. It couldn't be more of a fitting place to record it." 'Klang' is the follow-up to the highly acclaimed albums 'Capture/Release' (2005) and 'Ten New Messages' (2007).

NINE INCH NAILS

image015.jpg

'Metal Machine Music: Nine Inch Nails And The Industrial Uprising' DVD – 463876 Release Date 30/03/2009 Providing inspiration for the title of this DVD, Lou Reed's 5th solo album split opinion dramatically upon its release in 1975, but while many saw it as a contractual obligation designed to shock the listener, its long term influence has been nothing short of startling. The likes of Genesis P.Orridge and Throbbing Gristle in London, Cabaret Voltaire in Sheffield however, were concurrently performing a UK brand of what would soon be termed 'industrial', and these seeds collectively not only assisted and influenced the rapid rise of that period's Punk assault, they also moved electronic music into a new era. A new era that would run its own course and influence greatly an American drift in the mid-1980s towards a home-grown, danceable variety of electro-industrial rock, with the remarkable Nine Inch Nails at its heart and soul. This film traces fascinating and reviews the fascinating history of industrial music, via its 1970s origins, through its enormous rise to prominence in America in the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s with NIN as the focal point, to culminate with the current activities of Trent Reznor as he uses marketing and promotional initiatives in a manner just as creative as the music he continues to compose.

ELVIS PRESLEY

 image016.jpg

'The Complete '57 Sessions' 2CD – 463881 Release Date 30/03/2009 If 1956 was the year Elvis replaced his local following with a national and international fan-base, '57 was the year he cemented his position as the world's most popular entertainer. By the end of the year he was providing over 60% of his record label RCA Victor's income, and had generating more than 40 Million dollars of revenue from merchandising. It was also the year The King proved he could act, with both 'Loving You' and 'Jailhouse Rock' playing to packed houses through the second half of the year. But most crucially, the music he made during the 12 months in question was quite unbelievable – '57 was the year of 'All Shook Up', 'Got A Lot O' Livin' To Do', 'Mean Woman Blues', 'Party', 'Teddy Bear', 'Loving You', 'I Want To Be Free', 'Jailhouse Rock', 'Treat Me Nice' and oh so many others. If Elvis had never recorded another note after receiving his draft papers in December of 1957, the world would still remember him as the finest artist of the 1950s and he would certainly remain a cultural icon. Thankfully, he recorded for a further 20 years, and the world's a better place for it.

They formed more than 30 years ago, have been releasing records almost as long, and still today they appeal to just about everyone, from mums and dads to teenage NME readers – a journal whose cover they have uniquely graced in each of their four decades as a group. It is no exaggeration to say that U2 are the first rock band ever to have remained both a commercial and critical success story across such an enormous timeframe, yet by the mid-1990s the game was almost up; the group were considering a split, having lost credibility, much of their fanbase and most of their enthusiasm. This film tells the story of the massive regeneration of U2 during the new millennium. Across two stunning and classic albums, a world tour to accompany each, numerous side projects and a fresh attitude that not only drew the old fans back in droves, but equally attracted huge swathes of new devotees, the 'noughties' was just as much U2's decade as the eighties had been. Wrong is written by Martin Gore and produced by Ben Hillier (Blur, Doves, Elbow) who previously produced their 2005 album 'Playing The Angel' and the new album 'Sounds Of The Universe'. The track has a guaranteed future as a sky-punching stadium anthem – a Depeche Mode classic. The single is available on 2 CDs – a 2 track and a maxi featuring remixes of the single – plus 7", and includes the exclusive B-side Oh Well, co-written by Dave and Martin.
