The Who

It was an astonishingly bold concept by the producer Lou Reizner to present the Who's rock opera 'Tommy' as a dramatised, all-star extravaganza. Originally released as a double LP in a slipcase with lavish, illustrations, this was the first ever 'coffee table' album. And it proved a huge best seller when first released in 1971 and helped on its way by the hit single version of 'Pinball Wizard', sung with gusto by Rod Stewart on the album. Among the other guest performers accompanied by the mighty orchestra and choir are Pete Townshend, Sandy Denny, Richie Havens, Stevie Winwood, Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, Maggie Bell, Ringo Starr and even movie actor Richard Harris. This important CD re-issue serves not only as a tribute to the genius of the Who and composer Townshend, but as a memorial to Lou Reizner, a pioneer of multi-media projects, who died aged just 43 in 1977. A real collector's item, this brings back golden memories of rock's boldest, brashest era.

Colosseum's energetic brand of Jazz and Blues-influenced brand of Progressive Rock music made a powerful and lasting impression on the music scene. In 1994 the long-awaited reunion of the classic Colosseum line-up became a fact! Jon Hiseman, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Clem Clempson, Mark Clarke and Chris Farlowe teamed up again, and this double album was recorded during a sold-out show, in Cologne, Germany and features the complete and unabridged concert. * Drummer Jon Hiseman originally formed the band in 1968, with saxophonist Dick-Heckstall Smith, and bass player Tony Reeves. Hiseman and Heckstall-Smith had played together in the Graham Bond Organization and all three musicians had recently been in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. * In their original three-year lifespan, Colosseum racked up three U.K. Top 20 albums, while simultaneously blowing the socks off of Germany and the rest of Europe, and parts of the Americas. The reunion, after two decades was, judging by the music here, a lot like the coming home of six impassioned musicians of majestic grandeur, playing with the dynamic confidence of virtuoso musicians who understand the past, present and future of music. * The band's flamboyant enthusiasm still intact in all its glory after more than thirty years, Colosseum perform original and stunningly recreated arrangements of their classic favorites, combining the awesome power of their blistering Jazz-Blues-Rock Fusion with delicate, bittersweet touches.

The Beatles

For many visitors, Liverpool is one giant theme park… and the theme is the Beatles. At least, such is the suggestion of Spencer Leigh, Liverpudlian, Disc Jockey for BBC Radio Merseyside and investigator of the Beatles phenomenon for over forty years. Together with Spencer and Beatles historian Ray O'Brien, we explore over sixty key Beatles sites, including the Cavern Club, and the homes where John, Paul and George were brought up, as well as no less than three houses with associations to Ringo's childhood. At the same time, we meet on location over twenty personalities who made the Liverpool scene the epicentre of the sixties cultural explosion, including Allan Williams (the man who gave away the Beatles), Bill Harry (friend of the Beatles and founder of the immensely influential paper 'Mersey Beat'), Kingsize Taylor, (the man who brought rock'n'roll into Liverpool), and that's just for starters. This mammoth five and a half hour programme is essential viewing for anyone who was around at the time, and all the others who wish they had been!

'The Beatles London' is without doubt the most detailed investigation of the legendary group at this point of their career. It is guaranteed to provide new insights both for the Beatles fan and the dedicated chronicler of the history of popular music. Presented by Richard Porter, founder of the 'London Beatles Fan Club' and author of the 'Guide to the Beatles London', the program takes the viewer to key Beatles' sights of London, such as EMI Studios and the iconic pedestrian crossing at Abbey Road; the Fab Four's London homes; Decca Studios where they failed their audition and much more.

Accept are one of the most influential Heavy Metal bands, the band's music is featured in the smash Mickey Rourke film 'The Wrestler'. First time on LP since the 80's. Deluxe Gatefold Edition with unseen photos and liner notes. A must for every fan. Comment from vocalist Udo Dirkschneider about this album: "I would say that this album is the result of pure anger (note: I destroyed 3 microphones during the production). Following our experiences with "I'm A Rebel" we made it our goal not to be influenced musically by anyone outside of the band this time. One example are the lyrics of "Son Of A Bitch" that are absolutely anti record company. With this album you can say that the Accept sound was born & brought us attention across Europe & a tour with Judas Priest. Furthermore, this album was a starting point for many musicians playing their own music".

Paul Butterfield

Paul Butterfield brought a young band to the Rockpalast night in Essen, Germany. His second guitarist, Peter Atanasoff, was just 19. The disciple of the great blues masters had become a mentor to a whole new generation of musicians. Paul Butterfield: born 1942 in Chicago, died in Hollywood in 1987. Inducted into the Blues Hall Of Fame in 2006. This DVD pays tribute to a great musician. DVD Collection Series of the legendary Rockpalast TV Shows on WDR Germany. Recorded September 15th, 1978. Includes an interview with Paul Butterfield and his band.

The Band

The band's concert turned out to be one of the highlights of the first Rockpalast series (1977 to 1986). At the tender age of fifteen, Randy California had played with Jimi Hendrix and his band of that time, Jimi James and the Blue Flames. Hendrix even wanted to take him to Europe, but Randy's mother decided that her son was too young and moved back to California with him. That his guitar style was strongly influenced by Jimi became apparent during the Rockpalast concert when he performed Hendrix versions of the Dylan numbers 'Like A Rolling Stone' and 'All Along The Watchtower', adding an imposing bass foundation with his Moog synthesizer, which he operated like the foot pedal of an organ. Randy and his stepfather, drummer Ed Cassidy, had been the hard core of the numerous Spirit line-ups since 1968. Cassidy's drum set-up was impressive and included – like a classical orchestra – two timpani. His drum solos were considered highlights of the concert. Larry "Fuzzy" Knight completed the three-piece whose sophisticated arrangements consisting of rock, jazz, blues and psychedelic elements still had all the power of a "simple" classic rock trio. A special highlight came towards the end of the show when Dickey Betts, who had appeared on stage with his band Great Southern before Spirit, brought out his wall of amps again to jam with Spirit. One review even claimed that this jam had been the best performance broadcast by German television by that time. His melodious Southern rock guitar presented a striking contrast with Randy California's tougher guitar style. Back then, it was still possible on ARD TV to broadcast the Rockpalast night "open ended", i.e. the show wasn't over before the last note had been played. This DVD is an "in memoriam" release: on 2 January 1997, Randy California only just succeeded in rescuing his son Quinn from a dangerous current during a beach holiday in Hawaii. California himself drifted out to the open sea and was never seen again. He died at the age of 46. Part of the DVD Collection Series of the legendary Rockpalast TV Shows on WDR Germany. Recorded on March 5th, 1978. One of the best concerts of the first Rockpalast series. Duration: approx. 113m
