Planet Rock Named Digital Station Of The Year

Planetrock_large Planet Rock, the UK’s classic rock radio station has won for the second time “UK Digital Station of the Year” at this year’s Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards hosted in London last Friday 5th June 2009.

In its tenth year on air, Planet Rock claimed its sixth Digital Station of the year award and its second for 2009, when in May it was also honoured at Freesat Awards 2009.

Planet Rock broadcasts to classic rock fans that have never been catered for in radio and has seen audience increase 20% year on year.  

The station which went independent just 12 months ago, when businessmen Malcolm Bluemel bought it from Global Media said “This is a fantastic achievement by the Planet Rock team.  To get recognition by our peers, makes all the hard work put in over the last year justified.  The station is going from strength to strength and we look forward to challenges ahead making this station as big as the music it plays”.

This award adds to the impressive haul of awards the station has previously ones:

Arqiva UK Digital station of the year 2006 and 2009,Sony Radio Academy UK Station of Year award winners 2006 and 2008, Freesat UK Digital Station of Year 2009, BT Digital Music Awards – UK digital station of the year 2008.
