Wednesday’s Forthcoming Releases [Part I]

BENNY ANDERSSON BAND 'Story Of A Heart' [Release Date 06/07/2009]

Polydor Records is proud to present 'Story of A Heart', an album which returns to the musical roots of ABBA legend Benny Andersson. The history of the world's greatest pop band has hardly taken a pause in the past 35 years, from the 380 million albums sold to the record-breaking musical and blockbuster film which is Mamma Mia! But behind the scenes there's another musical side to Benny Andersson. For the past 20 years he has been leading The Benny Andersson Band, a group of 16 exceptional musicians and singers who share his passion for the Swedish folk tradition, not to mention Big Band, Bach, polka, waltzes, Celtic folk, Fifties standards – and straight-ahead pop music. The latter is showcased on the title track, the first new pop composition written by Benny with his ABBA song writing partner Björn Ulvaeus in 15 years. Vocal duties on this, and three of the four other tracks translated into English for the first time, are taken by the Swedish star Helen Sjöholm. Two of the tracks feature another Swedish vocal star, Tommy Körberg, who played the role of Anatoly in Chess in London for nearly three years. All the lyrics on the album are written by Björn. The 14-track album captures highlights from the three albums released in Sweden by The Benny Andersson Band – or Benny Anderssons Orkester as they are known there – along with some brand new tracks. "I wanted to make music based on the Swedish folk tradition, but with new songs written by me," says Benny Andersson, who also plays accordion on the record – something he has done since he was a six-year-old boy playing with his father and grandfather in Stockholm. The Benny Andersson Band are a huge live draw in Sweden, touring the country each Summer with their own stage and dance floor. The band provide the music, the crowds supply the vigorous dancing and the bonhomie of a Scottish ceilidh. On July 4th The Benny Andersson Band play their first English gig on Hampstead Heath as part of the City of London Festival's Sweden On Stage event to celebrate the start of Sweden's EU Presidency.

THE SATURDAYS 'Work' [Release Date 29/06/2009]

Ready. Set. Go. The Saturdays pick up the pace and step on it for the release of their new single 'Work' on June 29th through Fascination Records. 'Work' sees The Saturdays head to the dancefloor and tear the roof off it. With pulsating pop beats and more hooks than you'd find in a butchers shop this is another surefire winner for the girls. "I'm so excited about releasing 'Work'," says Vanessa. "It's one of my favourite songs on the album so I've been really looking forward to performing the routine. It seems to be a lot of people's favourites too so we're hoping it will do really well." 'Work' is the fifth single from the Una, Mollie, Vanessa, Rochelle and Frankie, who are fast becoming one of the biggest pop groups in the UK. Their impressive strike rate has seen their first four singles debut in the top ten and their debut album, 'Chasing Lights' reach the platinum sales mark in the space of a few months.

LA ROUX 'La Roux' [Release Date 29/06/2009]

At the end of 2008, 21 year old Elly Jackson, aka La Roux, arrived with a whirlwind of excitement surrounding her. Confirming all the hype – she bagged a top 5 single, the support slot on Lily Allen's national tour, has been part of the biggest remix of this year (Skream's Let's Get Ravey Remix) and has everyone from Franz Ferdinand to Daft Punk hailing her as a talent to watch. Now, with her single 'In For The Kill' still climbing the charts almost two months after release, the iconic redheaded Brixton girl unleashes her highly anticipated debut album. The self-titled LP is a kaleidoscope of emotions, touching on everything from heartbreak to disappointment to invincibility – all in true spine tingling La Roux measures that create an instant resonance. With former singles 'Quicksand' and 'In For The Kill' still sounding fresh as a daisy, future single 'Bulletproof' is a stone cold smash in waiting and marks the start of the summer. Ranging from the high crystal-clean falsettos of 'Fascination' to the brooding lulls of ballad 'Cover My Eyes' (that features London Community Gospel Choir), the breadth of the album and La Roux's diversity is clear. After storming club stages with her live show in February [including a month residency @ London hot spot YOYO] La Roux has been embraced by a sea of night owls. However for Elly and co-producer/ writer Ben Langmaid, La Roux [French for 'the red haired one'] has never been about producing disposable dance floor fodder. Since meeting four years ago the talented duo's goal was clear – they wanted to bring classic songwriting back into the clubs and charts, and with this album they've accomplished that and far more.

Following its US release in May 1970 by Warner Bros. Records, the album reached number 23 on the Billboard 200, where it remained for over a year, selling a million copies In August 1969 the band, who were then known as Earth, decided to change their name to Black Sabbath. In December 1969 they recorded and released their debut single, 'Evil Woman'. In January 1970, the band recorded and mixed the remaining seven songs that would appear on their debut album. The songs were recorded 'live' and the entire process took just three days. Guitarist Tony Iommi recalls recording live: "We thought 'We have two days to do it and one of the days is mixing.' So we played live. Ozzy was singing at the same time, we just put him in a separate booth and off we went. We never had a second run of most of the stuff." * Master Of Reality

'Master of Reality' is the third album by the British heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in 1971. The album's "darker" or "sludgier" sound was a significant influence on the heavy metal genres known as doom metal and stoner rock. 'Master of Reality' was certified double platinum after having sold over 2 million copies. For the recording of this album, guitarist Tony Iommi, who had injured his fingers in a factory accident years earlier, decided to de-tune his guitar down three semi-tones (or one and a half steps to C-sharp). This reduced string tension, thus making the guitar easier for him to play. Geezer Butler also de-tuned his bass guitar to match Iommi. The result was a noticeably "darker" or "sludgier" sound. 'Master of Reality' was recorded at Island Studios in London, UK between February and April 1971. The album was produced by Rodger Bain, who had also produced their previous two albums. However, this would be his final collaboration with the band. This deluxe 2-cd edition comes re-mastered with a bonus disc of unreleased material, new notes by David Wells and a booklet full of rare photos and memorbilia. It is also available in a limited edition Vinyl edition.

It's also about wanting a guy to love you and the struggle of whether you can have success or love, or both." If anyone is qualified to write a song about the sudden onset of fame, it's Lady Gaga. Since crash-landing at the top of the charts with her first two singles and her debut album, the New Yorker has moved from the underground to the pop pages to the front pages with barely a pause for breath. It's a rise that is explicitly addressed in the stunning Jonas Akerlund-directed video for 'Paparazzi', which is sweeping across the internet.
