PREFAB SPROUT 'Let's Change The World With Music' [Release Date 31/08/2009]

CD: Prefab Sprout were formed in 1978 as four piece band based in Co. Durham and went on to be arguably one of the most beloved British pop bands of the 80s and 90s. Prefab Sprout signed to Kitchenware Records in Newcastle in 1985 and since then they have released seven studio albums and two Best Ofs through Sony Music. Their biggest top ten album, 'From Langley Park To Memphis' featured Pete Townsend and Stevie Wonder and included their biggest hit, 'The King Of Rock'n' Roll'. They followed this album with 'Jordan: The Comeback' which was hugely acclaimed and Brit nominated. After various line up changes, the rest of the band released one album for EMI in 2001. Paddy released a solo album, 'Trawl The Megahertz' for EMI in 2003. Singer-songwriter Paddy McAloon is regularly hailed one of the greatest songwriters of his era. 'Let's Change The World With Music' was written and produced by Paddy McAloon at Andromeda Heights and mixed in Scotland by Calum Malcolm. The record kicks off with the hip-hop influenced hook-laden piano led 'Let There Be Music', which sets the tone for the rest of the record. Paddy began work on 'Let's Change The World With Music' in 1992, as the follow-up to 'Jordan: The Comeback'. 17 years later, Paddy returns to these songs, some of his personal favourite compositions. The 11 tracks are rejoiceful and uplifting, striking an endearingly familiar chord, all the while sounding fresh and timeless. Highlights are aplenty and include the celestial 'Ride', the jazzy sway of 'I Love Music' and the melancholic 'Sweet Gospel Music'.

JULIETTE LEWIS Terra Incognito [Release Date 31/08/2009]

CD: After four years, two full-length albums and countless high-profile tours and festival gigs alongside acts like the Killers, Foo Fighters, and Muse with her roaring rock road show the Licks, international megastar Juliette Lewis is ready to unveil her new album 'Terra Incognita'. Produced by the Mars Volta's Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, the two started collaborating after a meeting at Japan's Fugi Rock Festival. Lewis visited Rodriguez-Lopez at his Brooklyn, New York studio, bringing along cassettes of songs she'd roughly recorded on a piano at home. Rodriguez-Lopez was instantly struck by what he calls the music's "pure honesty". He began adding instruments and orchestration to the tracks, sent them to Juliette via e-mail. Lewis says. "I was looking at combining the elements of heaven and earth sonically, and Omar seemed to understand this language". Lewis and Rodriguez-Lopez recorded for three weeks at his Brooklyn and Guadalajara studios in late 2008, with a very specific cast of musicians Rodriguez-Lopez thought best suited the project; Rich Costey [Nine Inch Nails, Muse] mixed the LP at New York's famed Electric Lady Studios. The result is a stunning album of epic sonic scope and complex emotional journeys that Lewis says "is my version of whatever soul is". The result is an album that shifts from punky grooves ['All Is For God'] to chiming guitar rock ['Fantasy Bar'] and even includes a flashy pop song ['Uh Huh', which Lewis describes as her "make-out jam"]. All of which are creatively offset, by Omar's stunning and unique arrangements. This unique collaborative sound resonates strongly in the first single 'Fantasy Bar'. A quick paced, edgy assault that boasts a infectious pop sensibility that can be heard throughout the album.

CHUCK PROPHET 'Let Freedom Ring!' [Release Date 07/09/2009]

CD: Chuck reached out to some musicians and talked them into going down to Mexico City, the Biggest City in the World (population 25 million). Recorded at Estudio 19, a state-of-the-art studio [well, circa 1958 state-of-the-art anyway] with Greg Leisz [Beck, Wilco, Emmylou Harris] co-producing. Within three days of arriving swine flu broke out and the indignity of having to wear blue surgical masks just to fit in. Over the course of the next eight days, the band set about recording '¡Let Freedom Ring!', enduring a poorly timed blackout, shakedowns by the Policia, and a 6.4 earthquake mid-take – Mexico City might only be 4 hours away by plane but it might as well have been on the other side of the moon. But whilst mayhem ensued, the band buckled down to the task in hand, all set up together in a tight little bamboo lined room with the amps cranked. Chuck played his Fender Squire, Kelly Stoltz on backing vocals, Rusty Miller [Jason Lyte's band] played bass while Drummer Ernest "Boom" Carter turned his sticks into kindling. Carter played on Springsteen's 'Born To Run' – he promptly quit the E Street Band after they spent 6 months recording it. The results can be heard from the Clash inspired opener to the power pop of 'Let Freedom Ring' and the Eddie Cochran infused 'Good Time Crowd'. Prophet started his wild ride back in 1984, when 'Green on Red', the seminal purveyors of American Rock-Roots, plucked him out of Berkeley, CA and threw him in the van for an eight-year ride, and the recording of as many albums. Since then Prophet has recorded nine amazing solo albums and toured and recorded with the likes of Lucinda Williams, Aimee Mann, Cake and Jonathan Richman. Ryan Adams, Solomon Burke and Heart have recorded his songs, along with a host of others. Prophet has never been one to rest on his laurels and ride it out.

NEW MODEL ARMY 'Today Is A Good Day' [Release Date 14/09/2009]

CD: New Model Army are a legendary global underground cult band. Formed by Justin Sullivan in Bradford in 1980, their beginnings were inspired by Punk Rock, Northern Soul and the incendiary atmosphere of the times. Since then, they have had a long, creative and eventful journey. They have been massively influential in 'post-punk', 'folk-rock', 'politico-rock', 'goth', 'metal' and all kinds of musical sub-cultures but have successfully resisted belonging to any of these categories or genres. After nearly thirty years, they have never lost the ability to change, to thrill or to challenge and they remain central to the lives of thousands of fans from all walks of life spread across the world. In September this year they will release their eleventh studio album entitled 'Today Is A Good Day'. Mostly written last autumn in the wake of the Wall Street Collapse (an event celebrated in the white-hot opening title track), the recording was postponed by the sudden and unexpected death at Christmas of Tommy Tee, the band's long-time friend and manager. However, with another long-time friend Chris Kimsey [notable for his work with the Rolling Stones, Jimmy Cliff, Killing Joke and countless others] at the controls, the album is now finished – once again filled with unclassifiable music and challenging lyrical ideas.

The result – new album 'In the Music' is released on Lo-Five Records via Essential on 14 September 2009. These new love songs – full of relaxed harmonies, typical Trashcans – were set to arrangements in a back room in the South Side of Glasgow over the summer of 2007, and recorded in New York and Marthas Vineyard over a crisp, cold winter in 2008. Someone must have been smiling on 'In the Music'. ULTRAVOX 2CD REISSUES [Release Date 07/09/2009]

Following the sold out UK tour in April '09, and subsequent acclaimed festival dates around Europe, Ultravox release the latest of their classic album reissues ahead of further UK dates in November '09. *

Lament: 'Lament' was originally released in 1984. This was band's seventh full album and the fourth from the band's most-recognisable Midge Ure fronted incarnation. It was also the last album featuring original drummer Warren Cann. The album peaked at no.8 on the UK album chart and was certified Gold. The album's sound saw the band continuing to move away from the synth pop style associated with their previous albums, heading into a more mainstream pop/rock direction, similar to contemporaries such Echo and the Bunnymen, Simple Minds and U2 featuring greater use of guitar and 'stadium' reverb. This 2CD reissue feature the original album digitally remastered plus a bonus disc of mixes, some previously unreleased.

U-Vox'U-Vox' was originally released in 1986. It was the eighth full album and the fifth of the band's most-recognisable incarnation, fronted by Midge Ure. It was also the last Ultravox album to reach the top 10 in the UK Album Chart. Following the departure of original drummer Warren Cann U Vox featured his replacement Mark Brzezicki from Big Country. The sound developed the movement away from electronic rock started by 'Lament' further and some unusual instrumentation was used, such as the Celtic sound of 'All Fall Down' with instrumentation by The Chieftains. The album's final track, 'All In One Day', was arranged and conducted by George Martin.
