MARC ALMOND 'Opheus In Exile: The Songs Of Vadim Kozin' [Release Date 07/09/2009]
CD: Marc Almond a latter day curator of popular song has rediscovered the songbook of Vadim Kozin. Kozin was the Soviet era's much-loved, exiled then forgotten singer of Gypsy Folk and Russian Torch Song Romances. Almond discovered Kozin's work on his first visit to Russia in 1992 and was immediately taken with the purity and passion of his voice, as well as the beauty and melancholy of his songs, which are enhanced by the hardships Kozin suffered throughout his life. Marc has joined creative forces with Russian producer and musical arranger Alexei Fedorov who shares both Marcs love of Kozin and his aim to help bring his repertoire to a new audience. The songs have been specially translated for Marc and have never been sung in English before. Oprheus in Exile was recorded and mixed in Moscow, and features Russia's most famous folk ensemble, Orchestra Rossiya, conducted by renowned arranger / conductor, Anatoly Sobolev. who arranged some of Kozins songs for the orchestra. The flamboyance and despair of Kozin is juxtaposed by the ever-present optimism of a lost genre of song. Marc gives these universal concerns an overdue airing on a unique album that gives the original songs an all-new big, classy and stylized orchestral production, yet stays true to the original feel and roots of the songs.
GUS GUS '24/7' [Release Date 14/09/2009]
CD I 2LP: Following a whirlwind history spanning more than a decade, one of dance music's most notorious acts has joined forces with Kompakt following an illustrious run of releases on 4AD, Pineapple and Great Stuff – selling over 5 million records worldwide. '24/7' is a matured journey for this legendary Icelandic trio. 6 songs spanning over 50 minutes showcasing their wealth of musical knowledge in creating some of the most turbulent, engrossing pop-techno-house tunes in dance music history. 'Thin Ice' breaks through with it's throbbing bass line – Daniel Agust returns for the first time since the 4AD years with his triumphant vocal chorus 'I Feel Like Dancing!' that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Their northern souls shine with 'Hateful' – a submerged sounding roller coaster that brings forth their remarkable tact for balancing unnerving frequencies with the bliss of modern pop songwriting. GusGus cover the classic Jimi Tenor tune 'Take Me Baby' and go the extra mile by enlisting Tenor to sing his own song! The result is a modern techno/house floor smasher. The first single 'Add This Song' finishes off '24/7' and is one of the album's true shining moments – the emotional persuasiveness of Daniel Agust's voice will caress anyone through this blissful electro-fied opus.

HURRAH! 'Tell God I'm Here' [Release Date 21/09/2009]
2CD: Originally known as the Green-Eyed Children, Hurrah! consisted of Paul Handyside [guitar, vocals], David 'Taffy' Hughes [guitar, vocals], David Porthouse [bass] and Mark Sim [drums]. Switching to the moniker of Hurrah!, the quartet signed to the new Kitchenware Records label in 1982. Mark Sim soon departed to be replaced by Damien Mahoney, whereupon a series of acclaimed singles such as 'The Sun Shines Here' and 'Hip Hip' earned the band great respect from the British Independent sector. Based upon the pivotal force of the singing / guitar-playing / songwriting partnership of Paul Handyside and David Hughes, Hurrah! mastered a jittery, urgent style rich in melodic content. By 1986, however, the band had pushed their sound towards a rockier terrain, replacing the initial charm with power and passion. Damien Mahoney left to join the police force in the spring of that year, allowing Steve Price to fill the vacant drum stool. Their debut 'Tell God I'm Here' saw the light of day in 1987, swiftly followed by a support date with U2 at London's Wembley stadium but commercial success remained elusive.

DEAF SCHOOL REISSUES [Release Date 21/09/2009]
2nd Honeymoon I Don't Stop The World I English Boys / Working Girls: * Much sought after release on CD * New sleeve-notes by Classic Rocks Malcolm Dome * Remastered with bonus tracks and enhanced booklets Deaf School were a late 1970s English band from Liverpool. Their style was somewhere in between pub rock, punk, glam rock and art rock. They disbanded after their third album. The journalist, author and founder of 'Mojo' Paul Du Noyer described them thus: "In the whole history of Liverpool music two bands matter most, one is The Beatles and the other is Deaf School. If that seems like a sweeping statement then consider this: after the pop revolution of the 1960s led by The Beatles and other Merseyside groups, it looked as if the city's music scene had dried up forever. But in 1975 there came a motley band of Liverpool art students called Deaf School. And they were the catalyst for the most dramatic revival since Lazarus. Their impact on the city is with us to this day."
BARRACUDAS REISSUES [Release Date 21/09/2009]
Mean Time I Endeavour To Persevere: * Re-mastered with bonus tracks and enhanced booklets The Barracudas are an English based Anglo-Canadian band formed in the late 1970s. They are notable for their summer 1980 hit 'Summer Fun', which started with an excerpt from a spoof 1960s advertisement for the Plymouth Barracuda, in which one of the announcers has difficulty pronouncing the word barracuda. The single reached number 37 in the UK singles chart. Originally perceived as a novelty surf act due to the first album, subsequent recordings showed them to be a fierce garage rock and roll band, in the mold of the 13th Floor Elevators and The Seeds. The band split in 1984, but reformed in 1989 to record 'Wait For Everything', and then again in 2005 for the self titled album on NDN. Throughout their career their live performances have been energetic and frenetic.

CD: * First time complete collection of Epic and Shout [US] releases * Features classic and enduring hit 'Piece of My Heart' * Includes hard-to-find Northern Soul tracks 'Its Over' and 'Right To Cry' * Shout (US) recordings produced by Bert Berns When 'Piece of My Heart' reached the US top 20 in 1968, the pop music world was largely unaware that Janis Joplin's gritty vocal was but an echo of the emotive original by Erma Franklin, on Bert Berns' Shout label, from the R&B top 10 of a year earlier. Shout Records UK is delighted to bring together for the first time a comprehensive collection of all tracks released on both Epic and Shout (US) labels, reflecting the full range of Erma's musical talent in this fine showcase of soul and blues repertoire, also blessed with a hint of jazz styling.
CAMEL REISSUES [Release Date 28/09/2009]
* New remastered CD releases for Camel's classic studio albums * Includes bonus track & deluxe booklet with photos & liner notes
Stationary Traveller: Unlike many bands whose careers had begun in the 1970's, Camel continued to enjoy much success in the 1980's, producing fine studio albums such as 'Stationary Traveller'. Although destined to be Camel's final studio album for Decca Records, it was a fine effort. Inspired by the Cold War [then at its height] between the Eastern Bloc countries and NATO, the album featured such classics as 'Cloak and Dagger Man', 'West Berlin', 'Stationary Traveller' and 'Long Goodbyes' and saw Camel reach new heights of creativity. This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been re-mastered from the original master tapes and includes the full 12" single version of 'Pressure Points' and the song 'In the Arms of Waltzing Fraulines' as bonus tracks.
Breathless: After recording a string of successful albums with Camel, 'Breathless' would be the last studio album to feature Peter Bardens and heralded more line-up changes for the band. Former Caravan and Hatfield & The North member Richard Sinclair had already been in Camel for some months and was soon joined by his cousin Dave Sinclair in a new Camel line-up. 'Breathless' features traditional Camel music along with the Canterbury influences associated with Richard Sinclair, making for a unique album. This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been re-mastered from the original master tapes and includes the single version of 'Rainbows End' as a bonus track.
Single Factor: Unlike many bands whose careers had begun in the 1970's, Camel continued to enjoy much success in the 1980's, producing fine studio albums such as 'The Single Factor'. The album saw Andrew Latimer assemble an impressive array of musicians to record under the Camel moniker, including original Genesis guitarist Anthony Phillips, Francis Monkman, Simon Phillips, David Paton and also saw Peter Bardens guest on the track 'Sasquatch'.
ARMAGEDDON 'Armageddon' [Release Date 28/09/2009]
CD: * Newly remastered CD release for this classic album * Featuring Keith Relf, Martin Pugh, Louis Cennamo & Bobby Caldwell from 1975 * Booklet with photos & liner notes Armageddon was one of the great unsung bands of the mid-1970's. Formed in 1974 out of the ashes of the UK band Steamhammer, the group featured the vocal talents of former Yardbirds front man Keith Relf, alongside guitarist Martin Pugh, bassist Louis Cennamo and drummer Bobby Caldwell. Originally released by A&M Records in 1975, Armageddon's sole album featured some amazing music ranging from the Led Zeppelin-esque 'Paths and Planes and Future Gains' to the Progressive rock of 'Silver Tightrope' and 'Basking in the White of the Midnight Sun'. The much overused term "Lost Classic" is, in the case of this record, most apt. This Esoteric Recordings reissue has been remastered from the original tapes and restores the original album artwork and will appeal to lovers of Progressive and Classic Rock.
