SKUNK ANANSIE 'Because Of You' [Release Date 14/09/2009]
C5 I 7" I 12": 5 million album sales, one of the most forthright, iconic, and confrontational female lead singers in modern musical history, a six-year back catalogue to make you quiver – Skunk Anansie are back. They return with their epic new single 'Because Of You', taken from their forthcoming 'Greatest Hits' record, 'Smashes and Trashes'. Following an eight-year hiatus, Skunk Anansie are re-born, revitalised and as confrontational as ever, fully armed with highly charged, brand new tracks, a blistering greatest hits record and a 21-date sold out European tour. Written and produced by Skunk Anansie – Skin [Lead Vocals], Cass [bass], Ace [Guitar] and Mark Richardson [Drums] 'Because Of You' is bursting with visceral energy. Kicking off with a sinister, nape prickling guitar riff, Skin's intense vocal, which has never sounded better climbs on top, the track then hits you with a powerful wall of sound, showcasing their raw power and guile. "No one's really sounded like us since we've been away," says Skin. "I think that people are ready for a bit of in-yer-face tuneful rock music again. I see us in competition with every band that's out there and I think we're better than we were before. If we didn't feel like that, it would be sad and pathetic." The 'Greatest Hits' record 'Smashes and Trashes' is a 15-track career-embracing album. It features classic moments from their first two Top Ten albums 'Paranoid & Sunburnt', 'Stoosh' and their 1999 album 'Post Orgasmic Chill'. From the rejoiceful 'Weak' to the anthemic 'Hedonism (Just Because You Feel Good)' it's a timeless record brimming with hits, which is translated into the here and now in the form of their three brand new tracks; 'Because Of You', 'Tear The Place Up' and 'Squander'.

JOHN ILLSLEY REISSUES [Release Date 07/09/2009]
Never Told A Soul I Glass: John Illsley is well known as a bass player. After all he was an original member of the international mega-successful Dire Straits (120 million albums and counting) and played with them till they disbanded in 1995. In the 1980's during the heyday of the band, Illsley managed to find the time to release two solo albums, 'Never Told A Soul' & 'Glass'. Consisting of all original Illsley compositions, the albums also featured some eminent guest performers. Long time friend and DS co-founder Mark Knopfler played guitar on much of 'Never Told A Soul' and 'Glass', as did Jerry Donahue; both Guy Fletcher and Alan Clark lent their hands to the keyboard parts; even Chris White guested on the sax. These make up a veritable who's who of musicians, particularly for fans of Dire Straits.
THE WISHING TREE 'Ostara' [Release Date 07/09/2009]
CD: The Wishing Tree is an acoustic music project by Marillion's guitarist Steve Rothery and British vocalist Hannah Stobart. Rothery has played guitar in Marillion since 1984 who's music has often been described as neo-prog, although it is broader than that. Complex, melodic art-rock, often with a somewhat wistful and spiritual edge. They don't really sound like anyone else. Rothery always expressed his desire to start an acoustic project with a female vocalist. It was a long hard search to find the best voice which fitted, but when finally approached by Hannah Stobart and heard her demo tape, that voice was found. During two weeks in early 1996, Rothery recorded acoustic material with Stobart on vocals, Pete Trewavas of Marillion on bass and Paul Craddick of Enchant on drums and keyboards. All the music was written by Rothery and Stobart while the lyrics were written by regular Marillion collaborator John Helmer. The resulting recording was their debut album, Carnival of Souls, after the horror film of the same title. Nearly 10 years later and The Wishing Tree are back with a new collaboration, co-written by Steve and Hannah, with Steve playing all instruments except the drums, as well as producing and engineering it. Rothery and Stobart are joined by Paul Craddick who plays the drums, on some new material which Rothery describes as, "a cross between Portishead and Alanis Morissette". Stobart has a lovely ethereal quality to her voice, which shows in the whole recording, and features some delicate and ghostly harmonies, some mandolin and understated guitars providing a backdrop to the vocals. Rothery excels himself, playing some fine acoustic guitar, and when Rothery does let go with one of his trademark solos, he, as ever, makes the instrument sing. Their brand new album is 'Ostara', a melodic and charming album which will attract fans of Tori Amos, Pentangle, Portishead and obviously, Marillion fans. This earMUSIC label edition of the album offers 2 bonus live tracks and a bonus enhanced section with a live video of 'Fly', to the initial edition sold only from Marillion's label website.

PETE YORN & SCARLETT JOHANSSON 'Break Up' [Release Date 07/09/2009]
LP: The album had its genesis in the aftermath of a breakup in 2006. After Yorn was unable to sleep for a week, he finally dozed off, only to wake with a start just minutes later. What had awakened him was a dream. "I sat up in bed, and the whole thing was in my head, fully formed," Yorn says, sounding as if he still doesn't quite believe it. "I suddenly felt like I really needed to make a record in the style of Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot. Not that it had to sound like that, but it had to be a guy-and-girl conceptual thing. So then I asked myself, 'Who's Brigitte Bardot today? It's Scarlett Johansson.'" Yorn gave Johansson a call. Intrigued by his out-of-the-blue invitation, she decided to go for it. "Pete told me that he'd had a dream that we recorded an album together," she recalls, "and with that momentum, he had written eight songs that he'd wanted to record pretty low-key. I've always loved Pete's voice and have been friends with him for some time. It sounded like an interesting little adventure. He used the Serge and Brigitte recordings as reference for the ambiance he was trying to capture. He liked the idea of two people vocalizing their relationship through duets."
THE GOSSIP 'Love Long Distance' [Release Date 14/09/2009]
Ltd 12": **Strictly Limited to 1000 Copies ** "Music for Men is a raised fist of a record. Their time is now" – Attitude "Dynamic Ditto sees off suspicions of unsubstantiated Gossip… Tonight's show reminds us that some people become famous because they deserve it." Guardian 4 **** Described as "the disco record of the year" [Uncut] and "The greatest punk rock 'n' roll disco soul band on the planet" [NME]; Gossip have hit their prime with the release of critically acclaimed album 'Music For Men'. This record marked the band's first release of new material on Columbia Records. Produced by multi Grammy Award winner Rick Rubin and recorded at the historic Shangri La Studios in Malibu, 'Music For Men' completely captures Beth Ditto's powerful vocals and the Gossips fiery sound. Featuring the formidable lungs of Beth, house piano riffs and stomping bassline; new single 'Love Long Distance' is an indie disco master class that has all the hallmarks of a huge record from this colossal act. Remixes on the single are already hitting the clubs courtesy of Fake Blood, with Riva Starr completing the package in fine style.
THE BIG PINK 'A Brief History Of Love' [Release Date 14/09/2009]
CD I 2LP I Ltd 2LP: Robbie Furze and Milo Cordell are The Big Pink, and although both are of music stock, their excellent debut, 'A Brief History Of Love', is the first album that either can really call their own. 2009 started with a bang, with the ink just drying on a worldwide deal with 4AD – an apt move as their otherworldly qualities provide a direct sonic connection to some of the label's most celebrated acts like Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance and TV On The Radio – they appeared high up in the critics vote BBC Sound poll and then received the prestigious Philip Hall Radar Award at the NME Awards, something that surprised all but those that knew what was about to follow. Ignoring all pressure, they headed to the Electric Lady Studios in New York to record and selfproduce what was to become their epic debut album, 'A Brief History of Love. The job of mixing fell to Rich Costey (Mastodon, Muse, New Order, Rage Against The Machine) with the exception of 'Velvet', which was previously mixed by Alan Moulder (My Bloody Valentine, NiN, Smashing Pumpkins, Yeah Yeah Yeahs). The final results are eleven stunning tracks that chart the trials of the heart, set within a sound-world that combines melody and beautiful noise in equal measure. Previous singles, 'Too Young To Love' and 'Velvet' make the cut while live favourites like 'Crystal Visions', 'Dominos' and 'Count Backwards From Ten' all go towards creating a body of work so strong, it cements The Big Pink's position as one of the finest and most important bands to emerge in years. Also available – exclusively to independent retailers – a limited edition vinyl version featuring the heavyweight 2LP plus a bonus pink and white coloured vinyl 12" – one side etched and the other featuring an exclusive track.
TYONDAI BRAXTON 'Central Market' [Release Date 14/09/2009]
CD I 2LP: For more than a decade, Tyondai Braxton has fine-tuned his unique approach as – quite literally – a solo artist. Working by himself on stage and in the studio, he employed guitar, voice, looping and delay pedals plus various found objects to create work that simulates the sound of a large ensemble. On his Warp Records debut and second full-length solo album, 'Central Market', Braxton has composed for a real orchestra [the Wordless Music Orchestra, perhaps best known for their performance of Jonny Greenwood's solo compositions] for the first time in his solo career. The result is an exhilarating mix of acoustic and electronic instrumentation; surprisingly pastoral moments give way to more clangorous passages that will immediately appeal to fans of avant-rock quartet, Battles, of which Braxton is a member. Composed, arranged and produced by Braxton, the 7-track set features guitars, vocals, electronics and percussion, unified to create orchestral music re-imagined for the 21st century, and perhaps the 22nd as well. 'Central Market' introduces Braxton as an exceptional addition to the world of New Music composers, while maintaining a strong hold on the polyrhythmic and technically awe-inspiring creations he is already known for. Available on CD and heavyweight high quality pressing on double gatefold vinyl (including a free download of the album). Vinyl also includes an extra track not on the CD version.
TWIN ATLANTIC 'Vivarium' [Release Date 14/09/2009]
CD: Twin Atlantic are one of the most exciting rock bands to come out of Scotland in many years. Hailing from Glasgow, they signed to Red Bull Records worldwide after releasing a single on King Tut's own label, and later an EP themselves. Having reached the level in Glasgow where without a record deal they could sell out the 900 capacity QMU they signed a worldwide record deal and began recording their debut mini album in Los Angeles. Produced by John Travis (Kid Rock, Static X) the mini album showcases the more rock side of the bands music, ahead of a full album release next year.
THE UNTHANKS 'Here's The Tender Coming' [Release Date 14/09/2009]
CD: Following on from their Mercury Prize nomination, Geordie folk inventors Rachel Unthank & The Winterset are back with a name tweak [The Unthanks], revised line-up and a brand new album, 'Here's The Tender Coming' that builds on the incomparable sound that has earned them admirers from the ranks of Radiohead, Portishead, Robert Wyatt, Ben Folds, Nic Jones, Ewan McGregor and Nick Hornby. Released in 2007, 'The Bairns' became one of the most successful folk albums of the last 10 years, culminating in the richly deserved Mercury nomination a year later. The new album and line-up adds strings, horns and most arrestingly of all, drums and percussion for a much more developed, layered sound this time around. 'Here's The Tender Coming' is the usual Unthank mix of traditional songs, self-penned (McNally's 'Lucky Gilchrist', written as a celebration of a close friend of Rachel's who died young last year) and songs written in the folk idiom – many imaginatively borrowed from writers little known outside the folk world and mostly from the North East of England. Yet this is not "just folk" – in 'Annachie Gordon' there are overtones of Steve Reich counterpoint, and the Beach Boys / Fleet Foxes playful harmony in opener 'Because He Was A Bonnie Lad'. There are even shades of Antony & The Johnsons in the opening to 'Flowers of the Town' or the quietly shambolic eccentricity of Robert Wyatt in 'Living By The Water', and in 'Lucky Gilchrist' the playful joy of Sufjan Stevens. This is an album of depth and joy and the critics are already lining up to praise it. The support for this group amongst a hugely influencial and hugely diverse number of artists, critics, journalists, actors, etc is immense and this album will once again garner incredible support from these fans.
YOU ME AT SIX 'Take Off Your Colours' [Release Date 14/09/2009]
2CD: "The only new British band you need to be bothered with this year" – Kerrang! "They could be massive" – Rock Sound You Me At Six's emergence is a DIY punk dream come true: one unsigned suburban rock outfit – zapped through with sinewy guitar riffs and can't-get-you-out-of-my-head harmonies – are suddenly rocket launched from Surrey's suburban toilet circuit into the festival big time and onto Radio One's playlist with only a MySpace fan page to light the fuel. Along the way, the five piece – lead singer Josh Franceschi, guitarists Max Heyler and Chris Miller, drummer Dan Flint and bassist, Matt Barnes – amass a fan base of thousands. They score upwards of two million hits on YouTube for the homemade video to 2007 single, 'Save It For The Bedroom' and support the likes of arena big hitters, Fall Out Boy and Fightstar. YMAS's effervescent spirit kick-started a domino effect: support slots were falling at their feet; they quickly recorded a handful of tracks to build on the buzz. A 2007 single, 'Save It For The Bedroom' drew admiring glances and was matched by a string of explosive live shows, including a headliner at the Astoria. That reputation catapulted the independent release of 'Take Off Your Colours' through Slam Dunk Records, straight to #25 in the album chart. As well as a Radio 1 playlist, You Me At Six's growing stardom was reflected by with a succession of Kerrang! Award nominations: Best Newcomer and Best British Band [2008 and 2009]. A return to the studio this year produced two new singles; the insanely catchy radio hit 'Finders Keepers' introduced the band to the mainstream when it was released earlier this summer and now the band look to capitalise on that breakthrough with new single 'Kiss and Tell,' a sing along anthem in the making. Their cover of Lady GaGa's 'Poker Face', a live favourite, is a single b-side. The hotly tipped Surrey quintet, You Me At Six embark upon a hectic schedule of activity throughout September. The month commences with the September 7th release of 'Kiss and Tell' before the band head out on a brief UK tour of intimate venues. They will then release the Deluxe Edition of their debut album 'Take Off Your Colours' on September 14th. The Deluxe Edition features the original acclaimed album alongside a second disc comprising of five new songs (including 'Kiss and Tell' and 'Finders Keepers') as well as the accompanying videos for both singles.
FRANK BLACK 'Black Sessions: Live In Paris… plus The Kitchen Tapes' [OUT NOW!]
2LP: **Strictly Limited to 200 Copies ** This is a real warehouse discovery – a limited quantity of this rare double vinyl release from 1995. At that time Frank Black was at the peak of his post Pixies solo success, and the previous year's 'Teenager of the Year' album and world tour has long been accepted as one of his best. The 'Les Black Sessions' was a regular radio show hosted by Bernard Lenoirs [the French John Peel] and this album contains the entire 19 song live set recorded in Paris for that show that covers three sides of this release, the final side being 'The Kitchen Tapes', a small selection of demos recorded by Frank and Pixies guitarist Joey Santiago. The album was originally available only as a CD in plain black plastic box direct from Virgin France, while here in the UK Frank's label, 4AD, decided not to release the album. At that point small Scottish based indie label Anoise Annoys stepped in and took on the project under license and the CD hit the independent charts, peaking at number 6. Due to demand, a small pressing of 1500 vinyl albums was also produced and it is a few cartons of those that have been discovered in storage recently. The set list was culled from Frank's self titled debut album plus the aforementioned 'Teenager of the Year' but also featured previews of songs that would appear on the 'Men in Black' album a year later.
YES 'Beyond And Before: The BBC Recordings 1969 – 1970' [OUT NOW!]
2CD: This two-disc set consists of BBC sessions from 1969 and 1970, when Yes was still in its creative infancy. That's not to say the band's sound was undeveloped or unfocused, just that they had yet to metamorphose into the prog giants they were destined to be. With original guitarist Peter Banks plying a somewhat more traditional rock sound, and keyboardist Tony Kaye eschewing the carnival-like flights of his successors, the original Yes was a much more grounded band. Their covers of songs by Richie Havens and Buffalo Springfield emphasize the folk-rock element that played a part in their early sound. Most of the tunes on 'Beyond And Before' appeared on the first two Yes albums, but these live-in-the-studio versions have more rawness, with Banks, Kaye, and bassist Chris Squire frequently kicking the group dynamic into overdrive. Of special interest to hardcore Yes fans are the previously unrecorded cuts, include a version of the showtune 'Something's Coming' and an original song, 'For Everyone.' 'Beyond And Before' presents a band that's embryonic but hardly unsophisticated.
ROBBIE WILLIAMS 'Born To Be Wild' [OUT NOW!]
DVD: This documentary is a close up, gloves-off look at Robbie Williams. The film covers his meteoric rise to fame as a member of the boy group Take That, which he had to leave because of his excessive lifestyle, as well as his solo career as a singer and entertainer, which made him a superstar. The film showcases Robbie Williams not only as an artist, but also as an individual having to struggle with the ups and downs of life.
RICK DANKO & RICHARD MANUEL 'Live In Scraughton PA, December 1985' [OUT NOW!]
CD: Rick Danko and Richard Manuel were key members of the legendary group of musicians, The band. In addition to being connected with Bob Dylan both recording a number of albums with him and performing at many concerts The Band also had a thriving career of their own. Opening their account with the groundbreaking album 'Music From Big Pink' in 1968, The Band would go on to record a further six studio albums before calling it a day for the first time in late 1976 with a farewell performance at the Winterland which was filmed and recorded and subsequently released as 'The Last Waltz'. During the 1980s, the various members busied themselves with sessions and albums of their own however they did reform as The Band without Robbie Robertson in 1983 and also performed occasionally in various groupings. This performance features Rick Danko and Richard Manuel captured during the late performance at O'Tooles Bar in Scranton PA on the 12th of December 1985 (they also performed there on the 1st of December). The set list on this recording features the two artists in fine form throughout and also features The Band classics, 'Unfaithful Servant', 'King Harvest', and 'Chest Fever'. As a document of two legendary musicians this recording is an important one. It was also recorded less than three months before the sad and untimely death of Richard Manuel.
FEAR FACTORY 'Hatefiles' [Release Date 07/09/2009]
CD: 'Hatefiles' is a Fear Factory compilation album of rare, unreleased and remixed tracks released originally by Roadrunner Records in 2003. JIMMY WEBB & THE WEBB BROTHERS 'Cottonwood Farm' [Release Date 21/09/2009]
CD: The moment for this momentous collaboration arrived earlier this year when interest in both a U.K. tour and album coincided with the availability of all family members to work together. The result, 'Cottonwood Farm,' juxtaposes several new songs from the Brothers with a handful of treasures from Jimmy's archives – two of them previously unreleased, including the epic, 12-minute title track. Jimmy wrote 'Cottonwood Farm' in the early 1970s for his grandfather, and it proved an ideal focal point for the album, its various movements presenting character-roles for the family's many singers [including Jimmy's father Bob and his youngest daughter Camila]. "Even though I didn't know it at the time," Jimmy says, "this album is the reason that I wrote this piece of music."
SHARON SHANNON 'Saints And Sinners' [Release Date 28/09/2009]

Featuring the Fisherman's Blues Waterboys line-up After the major quadruple-platinum selling success of the 'Galway Girl' album in Ireland and her two Meteor awards increasing her popularity even further & spanning generations of fans, Sharon really is thought of as the country's greatest national treasure. This new studio album includes several newly penned tracks by the accordion maestro herself and boasts a hoard of special guests including Imelda May, Jerry Fish, Carol Keogh [Automata], Justin Adams [Robert Plant Band], Jack the Rapper and introducing the mighty Cartoon Thieves. One of her instrumentals, 'Cape Clear', features in new Neil Jordan movie 'Ondine' in which Sharon stars as herself alongside Colin Farrell. This will be premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2009. Perhaps the most musically important track is 'Saints & Angels', written by chief Waterboy Mike Scott. This track was written for 'Fisherman's Blues' but was never included on the album. The new recording features the first ever reunion of that classic 1989 line-up that includes Mike, Steve Wickham, Anthony Thistlethwaite, Trevor Hutchinson and Sharon.

GUY CLARK 'Somedays The Song Writes You' [Release Date 21/09/2009]
CD: When Guy Clark discusses the art and craft of song-writing, people listen. He has, after all, been writing songs of uncommon quality for nearly four decades, songs like 'L.A. Freeway', 'Desperados Waiting For a Train', 'The Randall Knife' and 'Texas, 1947.' 'Somedays The Song Writes You' is the 13th album in his collection and many are calling his finest work in decades.
