memory lane with The Singing Detective, the critically acclaimed BBC television
serial, written by Dennis Potter, starring Michael Gambon which was first
broadcast in 1986.
The story revolved around mystery writer Philip E.
Marlow in wartime Britian and the music in the series reflected the
period.

This album
contains much of the music from the series including tracks by Vera Lynn, Bing
Crosby & The Andrews Sisters, Ambrose & His Orchestra, Al Jolson, Ella
Fitzgerald, The Ink Spots, Anne Shelton, Lou Preager & His Orchestra, Dick
Haymes and The Mills Brothers.
