London exhibition marks 40th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s death

Hendrix In Britain launches on Wednesday and will be
located in the rock legend's former home at 23 Brook Street in central

Hendrix moved in to the top floor flat in 1968 with
his English girlfriend Kathy Etchingham and declared "this is my first real home
of my own."  The couple paid £30 per week
rent and entertained many friends and musicians at the address, including Keith
Richard and Keith Moon.

The flat is diagonally above the Mayfair
townhouse once occupied by the composer George Frideric Handel, in the double
building now known as Handel HouseOn
hearing that Handel had lived next door, Hendrix is reported to have headed
across the road to One Stop Records in South Molton Street to buy a copy of
Messiah. He later claimed to have seen the composer’s bewigged ghost
disappearing into a wall.
