The most famous tenor of his generation, he was renowned internationally for the great beauty of his voice and the soundness of his vocal technique. Such was Gigli's talent, he is considered to be one of the very finest tenors in the recorded history of music.
A famously generous man, at the end of his concerts he used to remain on stage and sing any song requested by the audience for money, the proceeds of which he would then donate to charity.
The Prime of his career lay between the wars, but many of his performances were captured of 78 and subsequently transfered onto vinyl in the 40's and 50', so it is still possible to enjoy his talent today – sometimes even in stereo.
We have several great collections of his works in our Beniamino Gigli catalogue and he also crops up regularly in collections of vintage opera works.
