Every once in a while here at 991.com we come across bizarre rarities that we have never seen before, and once they are gone are likely to never see again. Sometimes these are mispressed items, one offs, rare recordings, and all things weird and wonderful. Below is one of the latest "oddities" to grace us with its presence.
THIN LIZZY Jailbreak – 1976 UK 1st issue Vertigo 'spaceship label 9-track LP with 'Titch And Quackers' & 'Manchester United' matrix etchings, the classic 6th album and arguably one of the band's finest, featuring 2 of their biggest hits The Boys Are Back In Town and the renowned title track plus other gems including Angel From The Coast and the mighty live concert favourite Emerald. Housed in a now iconic 'Super de luxe' die-cut silver internal pocket gatefold picture sleeve printed byHowards Printers [Slough] Ltd. England.
Obviously everyone knows this record now, and that it is a classic album that is deserving of its place in rock history. However what makes this particular copy special is the bizarre matrix etchings of "Titch and Quackers" on the A side, and "Manchester United" on the B side. This was probably something that was down to the pressing plant, that may have been used on other records in a similar way to "Porky and Pecko" used by vinyl pressing engineer George Peckham. These matrix etchings confirm that it is the first pressing as later issues did not have this also, and often this may well have gone unnoticed in the past!
The good thing about this copy as well is that the iconic die-cut sleeve that is usually susceptible to damage due to the fragile nature of it is in near mint condition, with no tears, or splits, and you will be hard pushed to ever come across a copy in as nice condition as this.
