We have recently acquired a collection owned by Peter Mason.
Peter is a singer-songwriter with a long and illustrious career. Back in the early 1970s he served his musical apprenticeship with the likes of Dave Dee and the Bee Gees. He moved on to produce his own country-rock flavoured music as a solo artist and with the band Mason. As a songwriter Peter has written songs for a number of UK and International album and single releases – over sixty in all, and for artists such as PJ Proby, Ellen Foley (ex-Meatloaf), Rachel Sweet, Iona & Andy and The Haleys. Among these, he’s had a number of Top Ten hits in Europe.
- His songwriting attracted the attention of Dave Dee. Secured his first music publishing contract, which led to P J Proby and The Magic Lanterns each recording a song.
- Turned professional after being chosen to join The Bee Gees as a replacement for Robin Gibb, an episode featured in a recent biography: ‘The Bee Gees – Tales of The Brothers Gibb’.
- Joined a solo Dave Dee – Guitar/HarmonyVocals/Personal Assistant.
- Started recording a solo album – joined by two members of D, B, M & T (Tich Amey & Beaky Diamond) – became a country rock/roots/alternative style band under the name of ‘Mason’. Signed to Pye Records subsidiary label "Dawn". As it turned out, Dawn was not the right home for an album-oriented act like "Mason", and admitted they did not know how to handle them, and the band broke up.
