Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at 991.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.

Miles Davis Agharta: 1975 UK white label test pressing for disc 2 of the double vinyl LP, contains the tracks Interlude and Theme From Jack Johnson, custom white labels with A1/B1 matrix stamped into the runout groove. It is uncertain if there was a test pressing for the other disc to accompany this one as is the nature of how test pressings are produced. Hand titled plain white sleeve.

Stan Levey – This Time The Drums On Me: Impossibly Rare Pair Of Single-Sided Test Pressings for the 1955 UK 7-track Mono LP, a drummer led Bop winner of the highest order with the great Dexter Gordon [tenor sax], Lou Levy [piano], Frank Rosolino[trombone], Conte Condoli [trumpet] & Leroy Vinnegar [bass]. The Parlophone labels are custom black on white with ‘Not For Sale’ print & the artist, album title & some of the song details are annotated in blue pen on the labels’ playing side of both discs. The matrices in the run-outs are machine stamped ‘BCP 37A-1N’/ ‘BCP 37B-1N’. This incredible one-off rarity originates from the private collection of a former staff member for Dobells record shop in Charing Cross, untouched for over half a century. Only a small handful of these were pressed to test the sonics & there can be few surviving copies left. Complete with the ‘Emitex’ inner bag, which is annotated with all the matrix & recordings details, & a pasted card sleeve with a test xerox of the record’s back panel album notes, the two vinyl discs are Excellent, & appear nice & clean with just a few faint paper hairlines not affecting play.

john Surman – Way Back When: Impossibly Rare 80s UK Test Pressing 6-track LP, comprising all four parts of the title track & ‘Owlshead’ & ‘Out & About’ for a recording from October 7, 1969, cut at Tangerine Studios, London that never sawrelease in its day. Also stars Mike Osborne, John Taylor, Brian Odgers & John Marshall. We believe this disc was pressed by Mole Jazz & in very small quantities. The labels are plain white & the matrices are hand scratched & read ‘RGG1109’/’RGG1110’. The vinyl is Excellent to Near Mint with minimal sign of play. Unlikely to ever be found again!
