Ain’t nothing but a jazz thing here at eil.com this week with a vast array of top jazz rare vinyl and CDs coming through the doors, here’s a few to whet your jazz whistle, see them all in our Jazz collectors store.
Ornette ’59 – Lenox School Of Jazz: Strictly limited [100 copies] 1970s Italian issue of the 1959 US privately pressed 11-track vinyl LP, the legendary fund-raising record for the summer Jazz camp, featuring the cream of Jazz including Jimmy Giuffre, Gary McFarland, Al Kiger, Attila Zoller & Ran Blake, picture sleeve. The sleeve shows just a little sun fading to the top and spine with minimal sign of wear. The vinyl has a little cosmetic mottling on side A with just a light hairline across Jingles, otherwise displays very little sign of play leaving it Excellent – a stunning copy of a mythical Jazz beast!
Tonton Macoute – Tonton Macoute: Rare and in demand original 1971 UK Neon label 7-track LP of British jazz-rock with blues and psych touches, revered by the prog intelligentsia, housed in a superb Keef-designed matt gatefold picture sleeve printed and made by the EJ Day Group. The sleeve displays some scuffing to its edges, yet the spine is clearly legible and the inside print immaculate with just a small pen mark next to one of the tracks. The vinyl is housed in its die-cut poly-lined inner and remains excellent with only a few light cosmetic surface scuffs but shows only light evidence of play. Recommended.
Dexter Gordon – Go!: Very rare 1962 US original 6-track MONO vinyl LP, with ‘New York USA’ label address, ‘Van Gelder’ machine stamped in the run-offs both sides & an ‘ear’ etching in the run-outs, front laminate pasted picture sleeve with ’43 West 61st Street, New York 23′ address on the back & the original catalogue inner. With backing from Sonny Clark, Butch Warren & Billy Higgins, this is one of the all-time treasured Blue Note albums.
